    he he he, my life.

No kids, death trap ‘69 F100.
First one, upgrade to 1980 F150 standard cab.
Next one, upgrade to a ‘94 F150 extended cab.
Next one, move to a super crew F150.
Next one, move to a Suburban (less he/she is touching me).

Then they start leaving and I went to double cab Tacoma.

Then the first one has my Tacoma.

I drive our minivan while I await a Wildtrak Bronco/2024 LC/2024 GX550. Leaning heavily toward the LC with the turbo+hybrid combo. Anything with +400 lb/ft of torque and 25+ MPG (hope at this point) will be a great driver.

I do like the 4G Tacoma so am contemplating trying to get on that list as well. If I do it will be for a Trail Hunter.

You are going to order one before knowing the pricing, mpgs, etc? What about a test drive to see if you even like it?

I did the same thing with the 3rd Gen and it worked out well. You can always back out once it arrives if you hate it. They'll sell it to someone else in an hour.

There is no "ordering" you are getting an allocation. And unlike the 3rd gen, I guarantee these allocations are gonna be more limited and harderer to snag in what configuration you want.

I wish Toyota would get with the program and let you build and order the vehicle you want instead of having to hunt around for something similar or hoping the dealer can find one for you.

And with the way allocations have been for awhile you’re at the mercy of whatever dealer has the allocation you want. I remember my 16 and 17 were both swaps between dealers in the region and allocations were wayyy more available. Sat in service waiting on my wife’s RXh 2nd service, the sales guy was so blunt and told the lady 4 out of every 100 RXs are a hybrid and she basically will be waiting a longggg time. We snagged my wife’s allocation six months prior to back in 2022. The new norm I guess with Toyota and Lexus. Was surprised how many people were purchasing despite the current climate. I think people are in for a surprise when trying to snag and the price to play on the new gen.

Ford encourages you to custom order. Saves them money on inventory manufacturing and the customer gets exactly (or close) to what they want.

Mentioned this before but a system that works very well is Orbea bikes. These are $4-15k bicycles. They have mostly cookie cutter builds with a few options.

You go online, enter your region, browse models with estimated ship dates, pick a bike shop to ship it to, pay a deposit to Orbea who then puts you in contact with the bike shop to finalize the deal. You get an actual order number (silly me, “allocation”) and can track progress online.

The maker sells product. The dealer (bike shop) gets business and offers product support, and best of all the customer gets some actual assurance their order (damn, did it again, “allocation”) is in the system and claimed by them. Opposed to cutting a $500 check to Steve at the dealership and hoping he calls you back.

Wish Toyota would do something similar.

    That gets expensive quick!

3.5 ecoboost for the torque and BAP for the dual exhaust, I'd opt for an XLT to get LED headlamps, but I don't think SC is available with BAP, that would also bump the price.

3.5 eb AWD tow package black wheels, black HID headlamps, trailer tow package upgraded mirrors and some other cargo upgrades, swivel seats painted bumper. Transit has a lot of options, and customizability from the factory.

Or just get a Canyon and have it shipped directly to your house. My best friend who used own a bike shop and carried Orbea would probably kill me for suggesting that, though he got fairly fed up with the bicycle industry and sold everything.

Toyota dealer here needs a $2000 non refundable deposit. Which is kinda bullshit, can see why they do it though, keeps you from going up the road, have 3 dealers here within 20-30 minutes.

The one I used was fairly quick getting me my truck, what they do is buy massive “rental” fleet, then turn immediately around make them certified used. Bit of paperwork trickery, and kinda bullshit buying anew vehicle that is labeled used, it was fairly quick though, 5 weeks.

My former local dealer did that crap too, Naperville Toyota, and would massively mark them up over new. Would have 7 miles and be Certified preowned lol

Yeah it is lame, brand new truck labeled Certified Preowned, paid msrp for mine, any markup was the add-ons I put on. It was a lot quicker than Ford at the time (pandemic) 5 weeks vs 6-8 months. If wasn’t for the time gap, probably be hanging on the Ranger forums rather than this one. Though dont think it is as entertaining as Tacoma World. :D

    It can be!

Out of curiosity since most people absolutely must have a rear locker. Did the cheapest 4WD build for both Ranger and Tacoma, since Ford lets you add one to the base it came in much cheaper. Did add on all weather mats in the Taco, since you can’t get rubber flooring.

Kinda bullshit, but see why they do it. Keeps people from going elsewhere, and shoos off tire kickers.

Not only for Tacomas, was the same for the RAV4 we were looking at. Of course those sell more than the Tacos. 366,700 vs 215,900 for 2022.

The difference is that you can actually build that truck exactly the way you spec'd it with Ford and pay that price. Good luck finding the Tacoma anywhere without a bunch of other add ons. One of my biggest issues with Toyota.
