Underused sump oil doesn’t go bad in 6 months. Unless you UOAs are showing fuel dilution or water, going a year or even more is fine.

Toyotacare did my 1st oil change at nearly 9k miles. The truck today runs as well, or better than any vehicle I've owned, so you can rest easy, your engine will not blowup. You have a better chance of screwing something up doing unnecessary oil changes.

Like I said, change more or less frequently as you see fit.

I prefer to change my daily drivers twice a year (unless they hit mileage milestones more frequently) and my power equipment or other vehicles annually unless they also hit milestones prior.

Time to sell your tools or get a new mechanic if this is even a remote worry for you.

Here’s a UOA from my Tacoma at 14 months and 3k mi. I hope this helps change your opinion.

there’s been quite a few documented cases of carboned piston rings that end up scoring the cylinders. This has been directly related to the 10,000 mile oil changes. If you only plan on keeping your truck 50 or 60,000 miles and you don’t mind passing along a problem to a new owner you stick with that idea.

    It doesn't change my mind.

I simply prefer to change my oil at least twice a year, for reasons beyond just the oil change- it's a good to get under the vehicle and keep an eye out for other issues while you (or your mechanic) are under there. I never said your opinion was wrong. I never said mine was right. It's just what I do and what makes me feel comfortable.

And, since you are sending your oil samples out for analysis, you are probably in the less than 1% of the people here who do so, and you will (potentially) be aware of a problem before it is a real problem. Most don't spend the money.

For most of us, two oil changes a year might be the only time the truck gets a good once over.

Have any examples of that happening to our engine?

What is meant is that outside of heat cycles there was 1100 miles of driving, the engine was more than properly broken in at the time it was switched over to Amsoil.

Depends on the use of the vehicle, and oil if going 10k, or more. Usually these are cases of using a cheap dino oil, or not doing oil changes when they are recommended by the manufacture. I've seen tests with mobil1 doing 10k oil changes...even at 250k those engines were spotless with no detectable wear.

Nothing has changed, 10k any brand of synthetic your motor will go 500k easy.

An oil change is one of the few things I feel confident doing myself. A vehicle, and especially a truck, is a family member once I've had it a while. Gives me pleasure doing something nice for a family member. I changed my '23 oil at 800 miles. I came out black, so lab analysis or no the oil was dirty. I am glad I changed it then and I continue to change it every 4-5k.

( a P.S. on lab oil analysis - often see people comment on how strong the lab results look after they have dumped the oil at 5, 10, 15k miles; but I never see anyone so confident that they put that used oil back in their truck. Frequent oil changes will do no harm, are easy to do, and don't cost much if you do it yourself - so why not?)

I'm going to change mine at around 1500 miles. I also am debating not changing the filter, as my 2nd change will be at 5k. I highly doubt the filter is loaded up, and it will be replaced at the normal interval when I hit 5k miles. I just want to get out the micro particles within my breakin oil that the filter can't capture.

Mine had visible debris in the filter at 446, debris in every pleat. 2nd change at 2518, I could be no debris in filter.

Ok, but it was not loaded up to where it wouldn't continue filtering, correct? I've never done it, but I don't see a reason to change the filter at this point after I thought about it. It's going to be out at 5k miles when most are going 10k I'm sure.

    Correct
Quite a bit from creating any issues.
I’m a mechanic. I wanted to see what particles were in the filter. There will always be some with a new engine

I’m just under 215,000 on my ‘08. I fully intend on getting her to 500k. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic EP but not the high mileage version. I change every 10k miles.

I want to do it now, but I wonder if Toyota free service warranty for new car will be canceled if I do my own oil change
