What size bit? Worth fiddy cents alone!

Works OK?

 

My 20V sawzall still works after falling off a roof when I was framing it. 32' straight down a residential elevator shaft that had a 6" curb with 3" of water at the bottom. As I watched it unfold the tool made a huge splash then both the battery and blade got ejected. The tool was nearly fully submerged. I retrieved it as fast as I could but it was probably well over 2 minutes before I pulled it out of it's bath. I set the tool on the lower deck in the sun to help dry it. The next day I put a blade and battery in and to my absolute amazement it worked. That was over 10 years ago and it still runs fine. lol

 

Bit was toast. Worked perfectly. I let it dry out before trying it.

 

Weird choice of battery paired with that tool.

If that ever shows up in my town my bank account is fucked. lol

 

When I drove it I'd give tools away , if you had a tooth in your head.

 

my money is that it was a cable installer 'contractor'(ie; man-in-a-van). not paid enough for the nice tools, so they buy the discounted models with the weak batteries to get by doing the job.

 

Does this count as a "dewalt" tool? haha I made an old dyson my new shop vac with a cheap Amazon adapter.

 

Bought this beast to frame kitchen wall and ceiling and bathroom. Well worth it and cost way less than having someone do it for me. I work on the premise that if having someone do it costs X and the tool cost <=X I will by the tool , do the job myself and keep the tool for the future.

 

timely this thread popped up today. the speed selector switch on top of my drill stopped working, so its stuck in the low speed high torque. Bought this drill two years ago and its been lightly used. I mean light, probably equal to a contractor using it heavy for a few days. Found a video about replacing the switch and have a switch on the way. Maybe shouldve went milwaukee, and i say that as someone who's used dewalt for probably 20 years as a homeowner.

I have a lot of Dewalt drills. I had one random one that I grabbed out of the box to drill a few holes using a self feeding paddle bit for the wife in some wine barrels being used as planters for drainage. The 3rd hole drilled and the drill made a crazy sound. The transmission blew up.

I brought it to the dewalt store, and they replaced it and sent it back to me in the mail a few weeks later. Looked like a new drill. Despite the fact I have like 4 other ones, it happens.

Milwaukee is not immune. I’ve had the hole hawg do that to me too and the collet on the impact driver drop bits. Milwaukee is good tool brand but is overhyped by a fanatical fan crowd..and that’s coming from a guy that owns thousands of dollars in Milwaukee tools.

 

Yes I had a Milwaukee 120V 1/2" drill take a poop. Died dead.

 

Fell off someone’s bumper, forgot to put it away. Seen it a few times over the years.

 

DeWalt's got a three year warranty. Google DeWalt service center and bring it to the closest one. They'll either fix it or hand you up brand new one.

I've used both DeWalt and Milwaukee. For longevity DeWalt is the better tool. After I burned up my third Milwaukee hammer drill, they decided to stop warrantying it. Even though it was well short of their warranty window. That's what made me switch back full time to DeWalt

 

What? What hammer drill was this? I’ve never heard of that about a Milwaukee tool.

 

That’s because electricians, YouTubers and homeowners are the primary buyers. Sometimes commercial building companies. Why would you hear about it? Even so, you’re hearing about it now. Again, it’s happened to me, with the hole hawg doing rough in electrical when was building a mother in law quarters on my property.

As far as personal feelings, I haven’t had luck with the m18 die grinder (first gen) and the last gen 5 inch fuel grinder. They over heat cut off thing happens all very often in regular use. Regular use is cleaning welds with the die grinder in pipe that a grinder doesn’t fit in, or cutting stucco for counter flashing. To be specific. Some people don’t mind that, or don’t use it hard enough that it’s a problem.

I’m not saying that ONLY homeowners, electricians and online types use Milwaukee. That would be inaccurate. I’m saying a bulk are. So I don’t care about someone’s buddy’s cousins uncle who’s a framer having Milwaukee. I get it. And we aren’t talking about automotive work here.

 

Standard 1/2 hammer drill/driver. M18 and came with a kit I bought when I started plumbing to get a break from carpentry. Every fucking plumber had Milwaukee tools at the shop I worked at. To make myself more compatible I put my 20V DeWalt cordless stuff in my garage and bought a bunch of Milwaukee stuff. This list is not me shitting on big Red. It's just my personal experience with them a decade ago. I think they make a solid tool but my DeWalts have much less downtime.

Big Reds I broke in the 5 years I plumbed. These are all M18s

4 1/2 Drill drivers.
2 1/4 impacts.

I replaced the speed switch today. $7 from Amazon in two days, about 30 minutes of time. Just not worth it going through warranty. The switch looks pretty weak, I should order another.
