I have a 22 SR and my DRL (turn signals) can only be turned on if I set my headlights to auto. It's kind of annoying having my drl and headlights always switching everytime I pass by a bridge or somewhere very shady. Is there a way for me to have the DRL always on without having to set my headlights to auto?

Look for the sensor on the dash near the passenger side speaker. Cover the round dome with something dark and leave your stalk switched to Auto. Lights should now stay on.

I believe the short answer is no. The long answer is kind of yes, but it would require rewiring the headlights with some added hardware. You could use a fuse tap that is ignition controlled, and drive the DRL with that. Put a relay on it so it will dim when the headlights come on like they are supposed to. And the take the ignition driven “DRL” source and tie it to a switchback controller (I use ones from Diode Dynamics) and tie the turn signal to it as well. Now disable the DRL in the headunit. You will have the DRLs functioning like they do when the headlights are in AUTO, but now they will do it when set to OFF. You will lose the ability to turn off the DRL though, unless you add a separate switch.

I think he wants it the opposite way? So the headlights won’t be coming on?

@Ryan2103a if you are serious, and want to do it, let me know. I can sketch something up for you, or even do it for you and make it plug and play.

Crap, I forgot about another solution from our Canadian friends: Try unplugging the sensor. The same one described by @TA2016 on the dash, right side in the speaker grille. You can pop the grille off and unplug the sensor that will effectively disable the AUTO feature. You will now have to manually turn your headlights on like some sort of peasant, but that should do it. Credit to @Okkine 2.0 and here is his write up:

Yes, after re-reading I believe you are correct. Does sound like the OP wants the Parking lights on all the time with Headlights off.

Stop driving in shady places and stick to nice neighborhoods.

Start the Taco, place light stalk on DRL position then release the parking brake. Set parking brake on again, then go take a look at the DRL's.

Thanks, this did the trick. I kept searching but didn't think about searching "auto headlight".
