Got my can back this afternoon, working on piecing the rest of the rifle together to actually be able to mount it and put an optic on it.

Quick question for you guys, I’ve got a line on two optics, used, low round count, they look good in the pictures and have the original boxes.
$1150 for both, 2 cantilever mounts included (one vortex, one Burris) included.
I think it’s a good deal but am I overlooking something?

I'll second the Arkens. I have a 6-24x on a CZ457 .22LR, with the right ammo I am at ~7/8" groups at 100yds with it so far.

ZOIKS! That's a S-Load of scope for a .22, but hey, that 22 is the one I would put one on if I was doing it.
    https://www.gunsandammo.com/editorial/cz-457-long-range-precision-rifle-review/455724

I asked Arken if there was any thought of developing a smaller and more appropriate scope for 22 and they flat out said NO. They are going to do one thing really well and stick to it. Already got more orders than they can take care of. Not looking to branch out.

There's a few things we know about Active Shooters / Mass Cas Shootings:
    1. Perp's are almost always very weak and fold when they meet with any type of resistance. Either by turning the weapon on themselves, stepping into the hail of bullets, or submitting to surrender. They want to create as much damage, carnage, and havoc as possible but they themselves do not want to suffer pain or inconvenience. As soon as their shooting fish in a barrel becomes difficult, it's time to throw in the towel.
    2. Armed citizens require NO response time. They are already there when the first person starts to dial 911. That means they can bring force to bear faster than the national 14 minute response time (average) for LEO's.
    3. Armed citizens are IN THE FIGHT. Cops are awesome. I'm not knocking them a bit. But if you have two people - one is IN the fray fighting for his or her life and their family / children and one has been invited to the fight from 10 miles away, one of them is going to be a little less cautious and a little more aggressive in bringing swift action.
    4. Oddly enough, most concealed carry citizens get more trigger time / range time than officers do. A lot of cops do the minimum to qualify each year. Not saying they are a bad shot - they do qualify obviously. But if you hit the range monthly or quarterly you are ahead of departments that require annual range time.
    5. Finally - Police like to coordinate. It's good and safe and prudent bu we have even seen situations (Mall in Allen Texas) where an onsite cop was able to end a mass-cas shooting single handedly by engaging first and not falling back to wait for the buddy system. Then there is Uvalde where they waited long enough for food trucks to start showing up.

It's no doubt that trained citizens are almost always in a position to self service them selves better than the government or private entity. If you have the knowledge and rudimentary tools:
    • You are more equipped to better change a spare tire than AAA.
    • You are more capable of getting yourself around the city / country than Amtrack or Uber.
    • You are in a better position to educate your children about the world than the school system.

Lets be honest - the first rule of Uncle Sugar is to confiscate 90% of what he takes in before he gives it back to you in the form of civil services. You are better of spending the money on yourself than giving it to fat, leaching, politicians.

All great info but one thing I almost never see people talking about in response to active shooter is blue-on-blue. A friend of mine went through Solo Officer Rapid Deployment (SORD) training and said a good portion of the class was about the fact that if you're not in uniform, statistically there's a decent chance you're going to get shot by police. The major ways to mitigate this dealt with training responding officers who might be second on scene and how to react to second on scene if you're first on scene. Just something to be aware of.

this thought always goes through my mind. If I'm in that situation and i decide to engage the shooter, how do i know others around who may be carrying will not try to engage me or what if a LEO shows up just as I'm about to engage and now i look like the bad actor?

instinct would be to engage and hopefully eliminate with minimal shots and then re-holster firearm and alert any LEO around

In a perfect world yes but it's not uncommon for someone to be shot multiple times and still be moving so how do you know they're not still a threat. Donut Operator had a video recently where a guy ambushed two police officers on a traffic incident and was shot 30 times before he was no longer a threat.
