    so i got a question for yall....how do you call some one there rank? it may seem like a stupid question but being a army brat private and corporal seem more natural to say and kinda roll off the toung better. it seems like the airforce ranks are kind of a mouthfull lol

    easiest is

    E1-E4=Airman
    E5-E8=Sergeant
    E9=Chief

    *note* some may be more hardass and want to hear Tech Sgt, Master Sgt, etc

    thats true but some shop well mostly when we are out on the flight line we just call them by there last name.. doesnt really matter what rank they are.. BUT when we are inside where everyone else is it goes by rank well at least E-5 and up.

    same here, but he was asking about what to call the ranks. we mostly go by last names and sometimes only first. depends on the rank and the familiarity with the person. if the brass are around, rank definitely required.

    that goes for pararescue stuff too, if you end up going that route. learn the PJ motto and creed, fallen PJ's, PJ origins and history, PJ's who have been awarded honors (MOH and AF cross) before indoc. trust me.

    i'd learn those before you learn any basic AF stuff...

    indoc cadre can do far far worse things to you than TI's can in basic...:D

    more pain does equal more fun though...:cool:

    Just read all of the posts on page one. I am retired Military and Retired civil service. 43 years combined. Congrats to all that enlist in the AF. I retired as a E7. Jobs were AIR Police ( Called Security Forces now ) and Med tech. Enjoyed every minute of it, even my time in Nam in 1968 although it was pretty rough in Tet of 1968. My son retires in 1 year and one of my grandsons is in Iraq right now as a Security Forces combat Airmen. His brother enlisted about a month ago and goes to basic in July. Take advantage of ALL of the education bennies you can. You will not be sorry. Senior Span has it right, don't just know your job, know the ones around you, it will pay off in the end. Long post. I will stop now..

    cadre asked me an algebra question. i got it wrong.

    i got pulled out of the pool, started doing flutter kicks on the deck w/ my fins on while singing britteny spears w/ a garden hose going full blast in my face and i had a nice pile of ice sitting on my nuts... cadre are twisted mo fo's haha

    First of all, Congrats! IMO, the Air Force is the best brach to join--they will definately take care of you and your family. (Especially if you can become an officer.)

    Unfortunately though, they are indeed cutting back in the officer field. It is very competative right now because of the economy. I was actually going the ROTC route up until 4 months ago. I was in the top 1/3 in my class of cadets in leadership, getting a GPA of 4.0, and had a PFA score of 98.7, BUT they dropped me from the program because I failed the DoDMERB medical exam. Failed because why? I had minor eczema on my feet/ankles NINE YEARS ago! I sent DoDMERB three letters from various doctors/dermatologists explaining that I have been clear since 2002 and my C/O applied for a waiver twice, but they were denied both times. My C/O said that if I had joined even just one year earlier, they probably would've granted me a waiver. It is just so competative right now...

    Good luck though! I know a lot of guys who go the enlisted route first, and then become officers later on. So you have a lot of options, just do your best in what ever direction you go and you'll be golden. :thumbsup:

    Are/were you a PJ? I was training for CRO/STO when I was in ROTC, I know several guys who have gone through indoc and I used to work out with a CRO. Do you know Lt. Catino (Danny)? I think he graduated from the pipline last April. I don't know how tight the pararescue community is... but anyway, he's a great guy!
