I've gotten rather used to looking at the ground through the holes I cut for my short throw install in the truck. There was no way in hell I was going to drop the trans to do that

Which short throw shifter are you running?

 

I'm pretty sure it's the URD, I checked my message history and couldn't find any record of which one exactly.

 

Trans is back out sorting out another leak. This time it is the output shaft seal of the trans. This is starting to feel like deja vu lol


Here’s the output shaft seal I found for the R156F. Had to buy a seal kit that came with these two and two aluminum washers for the fill plug and speedo sensor. For some reason I couldn’t find the seal by itself for this the 3rd gen 5spd trans


Also swapped in the new Tacoma transfer case indicator switches.

 

You've gotta be beating book time by over an hour at this point!

I'm looking at how large his "unit" is and compared to mine when I did my clutch... I'm never going 4wd/awd

I’m not sure what the FSM calls for, but I started at 7 and just finished at 1pm including set up and clean up. It’s like muscle memory now lol

Man I can’t imagine what having a lift would be like. I’ve gotten used to just wading in gear oil and all the goodness hahah

Lol the size of the driveline doesn’t make it too bad. What sucks the most with AWD is that you have to have all four wheels in the air to be able to disconnect the driveshafts

I've said it before, I remember when you were just a Padawan!!

So inspiring. This is giving me motivation to figure out how to do something no one else has ever done.

Thanks a bunch for the kind words Leigh!! The AWD swap was definitely a lot of wrenching, but absolutely worth it now that things have stopped leaking lol.

Dude yeah, I've come a long way! Learned lots from folks like yourself and just getting after it over and over again. Everything makes much more sense as to how things work once you take it all apart and put it back together several times.

You've pretty much done that with your truck so far, so I'm looking forward to what's next man. Maybe some twin charging goodness? A big BorgWarner EFR would compliment your TRD SC nicely

I just need a kick in the ass to get what I’ve got installed lol. I’ve had a Haltech elite 1500, boomslang harness, and 750cc injectors sitting around for a year or more now. Just haven’t felt confident in setting up my tune myself so that’s why I’ve been dragging my feet

Awesome, thanks that would help me out a lot. I’ve talked with @Torspd on this some and it sounds like it shouldn’t be too bad. I am not trying to get every last bit of power out of it, I just want something conservative, safe and reliable.
