ECT Button Relocation

I’ve been running with my Tacowiede shifter ECT button relocation kit now for about 2 months and I’m ready to give it my full and enthusiastic endorsement. I like to drive in and out of ECT mode, and this mod works flawlessly, looks stock, keeps my head up, and makes the truck more fun to own.

 

Gotta second this. I got one early on when I sent an extra knob to Rex. Maybe the most used and helpful mod I have done. With my Shiftsense Pro and this it's a blast to drive.

I installed Tacowiede's kit and have been using it for about a month. It makes driving the truck safer and easier. It's a simple, reliable and cost-effective option for anyone who only wants to relocate ECT mode selection and doesn't need/want a fancy TRD stealth shifter. The installation is straight-forward. It's a quality product at a nice price and a great upgrade. If you're on the fence, I say go for it. Demographics: I'm 68 yo and not an auto mechanic. My '17 SR5 is stock with factory tune.

Absolutely love it. I knew I would. It makes it so convenient to be able to have the button right there on the shifter. I never really cared for the pro shift knob so it’s nice to be able to keep the stock and still have this option Great product!

Is that one button and or the other, or is it just the new button located on the shifter ?

I purchased the ECT relocation mod and elected to send my knob in. Super quick turn around! This is probably one of the easiest mods to install. I did not need to drill the chrome thing around the knob. I twisted the knob on the knob stick and got it tight then I pushed the connector through the hole that is already on the plastic thing. Remove the radio trim. Partially pop out the trim where your knees are in-order to pop out the climate control area. From there you can look in and see the ECT plug. Routed the wire from the ect switch toward the gas pedal. Popped up the shifter/cup holder trip (from front (cupholders) to back was easiest). Routed wire through there and was able to lift that trim up enough with the knob on there to connect while looking from passenger side. Smoosh it all back together and presto.

Radio knobs make it more satisfying to turn up volume too. Funny how something so small can do that.

Purchased mine and doing the install today. I ran the wiring up under the shifter and parallel with the brown wiring that controls what gear you are in. Then used electrical tape to tape the new ECT harness wire to the silver shifter rod just so it doesn't get caught on anything when i shift. Is this what others did?

Also, What's the secret to getting the knob back on and connecting the two ends? I just could not figure that part out.

Got sent this link from the Tundra website. Looking to do a similar mod on a 2020 Tundra, but with the Tow/Haul button instead of the ECT button. Sounds like they are the same/similar function buttons. Anyone have an idea if the wiring is the same and if this would work on a Tundra?
