Just finished replacing the annoying 3rd gen throw out bearing to eliminate that chirping sound along with restoring that silky smooth clutch pedal feel. If anyone has any question shoot me a pm or ask them here !

    Year, model and miles?

Did you change your coolant by-pass(V6) while the trans was out?

Is it a difficult job? I have 40k on my 6mt, I'm sure I'll be there at some point.

i did not replace them. My truck had 55k and they seemed fine so I didn’t want to mess with them

It was terrible but quite a few things need to be removed. Driveshaft. Exhaust. Cross member. Miscellaneous brackets ect…. . If you have common sense and a decent mechanical background you’ll be fine. Took me around 8-9 hours start to finish not including breaks which are needed if you don’t want your back and neck to start hurting from laying under the truck

Do you have to separate the transmission from the engine?

I thought these manual transmission tacos were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Its these guys with auto's that do all the complaining.

    You unbolt it?

There are nine bolts. For the two at the top, be sure to have at least a 24in extension.

36"+ if you have 4wd with the transfer case hanging in the back.

    All MTs are 4wd.

I got by with a lot less the first time using everything that I had. Checking the torque on install wasn't possible. Just ugga-duggas. The second time, I had long ass extensions that made the job easy. But, I was definitely too lazy to pull the T case off.

Some transmissions have "windows" where you can access the clutch compartment. Wasn't sure how these are set up.

The window that we have is allowing the rear to tilt down. The fan will contact the shroud, but there is no worry there.

The original intent is for easy topside work for factory assembly unfortunately. But, there's just enough room to do the deed for us.

I don't think there are any manual transmissions where you could change the TO Bearing without separating because it goes over the shaft.

Yes. It’s a pain too.. especially the two top bolts holding the trans to the block.

Yup. Cramming your neck in the transmission tunnel to try and see them is no fun lol. The hardest thing for me was putting the transmission back in. Aligning the transmission splines with the engine splines was a pain in the a**

You were right. Just checked the lengths. I used the longest with either a regular 1/2in extension or that 24in'er on there.

Regardless, highly recommended. Sure beats two standard 1/2in, a long 3/8in, a uni drive, and maybe even a short 3/8in? Hahaha! That stole all the torque from the impact.
