I ran one till they were made illegal in Commercial vehicles.

The Ohio turnpike had the fuel saving 55mph speed limit for trucks.

I am sure it saved me a few hundred dollars in fines with them having the radar while driving.

:anonymous: i used to. Had a couple different ones. One i remember, was late at night so i was going maybe 10 over posted limit. I see the relective stripes on state Police car parked in median with lights off, about the same this truck blasts past me like i was stopped and detector goes off with the laser tone. I just start laughing cuz the the state trooper instantly turned his lights on.

It took a few minutes for him to catch up and pull him over, i caught up to them about the time the trooper was walking towards the guy in the truck. And just by his walk you could tell the trooper was pissed!:rofl:

I had a more modern one but wasn't too impressed. It went off randomly. I was usually right on top of the radar car and could see it before it went off.

They got better at shutting it down and turning it on being sneaky parking over the crest of a hill .

Terrain masking become part of the hunt by the time the detector alerted you were busted.

When you could spend hours in the Post Office looking at the wanted posters.

    I miss those days.

I remember ladies clipping pennies on the mailbox with a letter, and the postman would take them and put a stamp on it.

You don’t get that kind of service nowadays.

Nope. They leave your mailbox door open...break the door off, then leave a nasty note to fix your mail box or you wont get mail delivered...true story.

I was on leave in the military and driving from Va to Fl. Late at night on i-95 in SC my fuzz buster goes off I slow down, it stops and I resume my speed. A few min later it does it again. After about 4 times of this I figured the thing was flaky and just ignored it. Got pulled over a mile later. When the cop comes to the window first thing he says is; "you thought your radar detector was acting up?" I nodded. He replied "Everyone thinks that".
He was pretty cool and let me off with a warning.

Consider yourself lucky on that incident. I worked for the State patrol in our state doing networking (installing and repairing their data connections), and got to spend alot of time speaking to our troopers. Almost every one told me you throw away any chance of getting a warning if the trooper spoted a radar detector in your vehicle!

Heard this often as well, the thought being you speed often and so much that you're willing to spend money to do it..as well that you are probably still ahead since you most likely got away with it so much

My second speeding ticket... On 17B in Sullivan County, near Yasgur's Farm. I don't know how fast I was going, but I was screaming uphill in my old Buick. Had a radar detector. When I reached the crest of the hill... BEEP! Too late. Trooper coming at me got me..

I had that exact setup in a tan 78 Chevy Impala "company car", passed down from my dad. He was a fan of getting the "police special", not the luxury models for his corporate vehicle. Claimed he was much less likely to get pulled over on his daily I-75 commute and sales calls with truckload of carpet samples. It looked like an unmarked LE unit... 305 FTW.

No great speeding stories... but it definitely went off a few times when I was way over the speed limit... those old speedos only went to 85mph, so when we buried the needle we were probably going well over 100... it would clock well past the numbers on the gauge.

Once I quit driving on the Interstates I was content to drive 55 mph or slower .

The high speed muscle car days were over!!

One time coming out of LA heading home to n California on hwy 5 I was driving my Vett and started racing kinda on off a Porsche . We both got pulled over by the CHP. I had been looking all over for the CHP but hadn’t seen any, I asked where he came from, how’d he catch us. He pointed up in the sky and asked if I’d noticed the Patrolled by Aircraft signs. The plane had clocked us and sent him after us. He took 20 + mph off our speed so we didn’t have to go to jail. That was a hefty ticket. After that I sold the fast cars and got into 4x4 trucks

Far Less traffic 40 plus years ago . There is no way I could get away with that style driving in 2023
