No, it's 4wd. I think the premium model must sit a little lower, because that's what I thought also.

Thanks for the congrats. You gotta love the reliability of Tacomas. I don't know if the next gen will be that reliable, time will tell.

    4Runner Pro's are awesome!

Do not mod a truck you actually drive. Keep it stock as it is the best it will ever be.

    Well played, nice truck.

You arrived at the right conclusion. I enjoy my Tacoma, but add either a really long commute or adult-sized rear passengers and I’m left searching for an alternative. Side by side, Tundra is a massive difference in size & comfort.

Bummer that prices went ballistic after they finished building the ‘21’s. It’s a solid truck, but I think even a lot of previous Tundra owners are now financially frozen out of buying a new one.

Enjoy- definitely interested in hearing how your ownership experience compares between the two.

Did you spend any time at Tundras.com or the tundra Facebook groups? The amount of engine failures on the 3rd gen tundra would make me uneasy if I had to rely on it for work.

    Really.
If you think that's bullshit, read on:
Every, and I mean every, functional modification you make to your stock truck, you are removing functionality somewhere else, such as comfort, drivability, efficiency, etc. True story.
Mod for off road? Lose efficiency with weight and drag penalty.
    Mod for camping? Same thing.
Mod for speed like a tune or power like gearing? Lose efficiency.
Little mods like the 4lo in 2wd mod don't really count as you are just powering something.

Point is, your truck, in stock form, will do everything together as best as it will ever do all the things. Every mod that adds weight or drag or for torque or speed will cause something else to suffer as a result.

    Check build thread!
Congrats man. I get this completely. There was a few months where I was putting on average 6k miles a month on. It sucked. Love my Tacoma, but that isn't what it was built for. Now I'm doing a 2km commute 3x a week, so Tacoma makes sense haha. But that Tundra is gorgeous, and man are they comfy. I'm sure you'll love it.

Ok, now you're killing me LOL :)

Very nice truck, best of luck with it. For the record I'm very, very jealous!

With direct injection forced induction engines what happens is more fuel gets into the oil. This is a common issue and even the Tacoma suffers from it to a certain extent, but not as bad as a turbo or supercharged engines. If you get a chance, pull your dip stick and smell the oil you’ll probably smell the fuel in it. Fuel in the oil breaks it down fast. I could smell the fuel in my factory fill at only 250 miles. Once reason why I extracted it out asap and put in my brand / weight of choice.

No additives help with this and it’s something I dealt with in my twin turbo. The best solution was changing the oil more often and also using a high quality synthetic, and in my case I ran 5w-40 / 4k intervals. I was also pushing 500 horsepower with water meth injection. I know this was universally accepted in my high performance 3.3 twin turbo as being ideal for engine protection and it helped curb fuel dilution. Yours you should research. I’m not find much info on your motor, but I’ll continue to look.

Personally, I would do your first oil change by 1k miles and then do a black stone analysis kit by 6k miles / 2nd OCI and see for yourself. They are cheap, they send you the kit for free and it is very informative. Turbos are a lot harder on oil than N/A engines and generally 5k intervals are ideal but this can depend on oil type and how you drive. As far as oil type, nothing wrong with thin economy oil (0w-20) especially if you are not pulling heavy loads and super hot conditions. It would be very interesting to see what the service manual states vs the owners manual. For instance, with the Tacoma, the owners manual only states 0w-20 but the service states anything up to 15w-40. Personally, I would run at least a 30w in a twin turbo but it would be worth speaking with Toyota service manager and ask them what the service manual says specifically. Oil is cheap, your engine is not.

Also, some of the early issue with this engine have been worked out. One rule of thumb with a turbo engine, never go hard on the throttle until the engine oil is warm. In winter, this can be as much as 15 min or driving.
