I wonder how long they would last here, we get extreme heat and cold.

Old news she used to work at an e-recycling facility. It was fairly toxic, as with most recycling. As with anything we touch, humans are just bad for the environment. We can try to justify it one way or another, but in the end it yields the same results. As they say the lesser of two evils is still evil.

Funny how Tesla owners claim they got one to save the planet. Then proceed to smash the accelerator as much as possible and drive like total d bags. Tesla drivers are the new prius drivers, change my mind.

I didn’t get it for the environment. Its a blast to drive. Along with two reasons. 1.) I get HOV sticker in California which allows me to use HOV lane by myself as a sole occupant until the end of 2025. On my 405 commute, that saves 20 minutes each way. 2.) i have a paid off Solar system and I can charge my Tesla in $7 vis paying $5.35/ gallon.

That is incorrect. EV battery recycling will become more efficient as more EV batteries require replacement.

The prius and the camry hybrid use a completely different battery chemistry than modern evs.

The nickle metal hydrid (NiMH) chemistry used in those cars has a MUCH lower cycle life than the NMC or LFP lithium batteries in evs. NiMH is similar to a phone battery in lifecycles

you act like we live in the 20s and 30s where every family was having upwards of 5-9 kids per house

people are having 2 kids now days and the families with 3+ are becoming more rare.

its funny because i was talking to my wife's grandpa about this just yesterday. he was 1 of 9 and his father was 1 of 13. Wife's great grandma was 1 of 19. My grandpa was also 1 of 10 and grandma was 1 of 5.

dont forget these people raised this amount of kids in no more than 1500 Sq.Ft. of house which they built with their own hands and paid off within a year. and they're still living in that house.

    different times we live in.

funny story...over the weekend. a teenager in his moms BMW decided to act fancy next to a tesla. tesla owner hit the fun button and smoked him. kid comes up to the roundabout maybe half mile down the road and nearly crashed....didnt stop there. i guess he was mad he lost and was doing probably 65 in a 35 and smashed his moms pretty little BMW into the back of a Nissan Pathfinder.

we get out to go check on him (we were the next car behind him) and he already had his phone in hand dialing up momma lol
air bags deployed and Tesla owner circled back to give police report....ouch

Here is an overview of the 2021 life cycle emissions of medium-sized electric, hybrid and ICE vehicles in each stage of their life cycles, using tCO2e. These numbers consider a use phase of 16 years and a distance of 240,000 km:

It gets real wild when you go down the rabbit hole of the externalities from running tens of thousands of fuel tankers everyday on the road to tens of thousand of gas stations that also wouldn't need to be built or exist so that people can then drive to the "local storage pool" to fill-up their ICE car that only uses 12% of the potential energy the gasoline stores.

I've never seen externalities like the above ever quantified in the studies.

    @batt700

Thanks. Buddy of mine drives a fuel truck, he was telling me about the inner workings. Kinda crazy.

The infrastructure for fossil fuels is extremely damaging. Just look at my example of sugar production. During harvest season those trucks run 24 hours a day, just so people can have sweets. Can you imagine how much diesel wouldn’t be burned if people gave up sugar. The sugar beat facility is nasty.

No one really seems to talk about all the infrastructure that makes our modern lives possible and the destruction it causes. “It is not a deer in the middle of the road, it is a road in the middle of the forest.”

Only going to worse no matter how our vehicles are propelled.

Seems like Tesla owners have taken the place of Prius, BMW, Audi drivers. Get the smugness of the Prius and the douche canoe of the BMW/Audi all rolled into one. Don’t even get me started on Tacoma Bros…. :D

Almost didn’t buy a Tacoma this go around because of it, “oh you drive a Tacoma!? Where is your roof top tent and what is your Instagram account?” lol!

Survival rate was low and there was work to be done on the farm. The more kids you had the more chances of the entire family’s surviving

Not where I live. Couples have 6-10 kids. My neighbor has 8. And the children are encouraged to do the same.

While my wife and I have none, do the whole recycling reuse nonsense, eat organic….and I look across the street and think what we do is pointless. But by golly there are a couple Teslas sitting in their driveway.

Or look at the internet as a whole, the resources and energy it consumes. Was reading an article years ago, if the internet was a country it would be the 5th largest user of energy on the planet. Probably even worse now. Yet we get people telling us on the internet how much better EVs are going to be. Ya know if they truly cared they would stop using it, however like sugar we are hopelessly addicted to it. I am no better.

i know the reasons why, but crazy is pretending our population is still growing at the same rate as it was back then.

I don’t know where you got anything like that from my statement. I simply said that population growth is a given at this time, not that it was as exponential as in the past 200 years.

how often do you see that though? where i live and even when traveling i dont often see many families with more than 2-3 kids.

also how do you know their kids are encouraged to do the same? lol
