I grew up on tap water here in Az and can say it’s not good it not terrible. Midwest water tastes like dirt to me.
We have a soft water system installed and Ro in the kitchen.
    Worth every penny!

I grew up in Gilbert, when it was still actually rural, drinking out of the hose...people are soft these days.

I grew up on well water on a ranch in southern Arizona. Best water I’ve ever had. That well in Oklahoma was just as good. Guess that’s just the country in me :rofl::rofl:

    same. well water/hose water ftw.

@bad_guac I'm sorry to hear all that BS. I'd say its definitely a landlord/building thing. Anything built with copper pipes will be your friend.. avoid PVC builds. other than that.. pretty standard out here.

X2...my old house in N PHX had those pipes in the attic

Came home from our vacation in 2002 to a flooded house and spent the next 6 weeks on hotel "vacation" while it was basically being rebuilt

I think my big complaint about the water would be about the temps. We don’t have cold water in summer, warm hot and hotter. You get like the first 2mins to enjoy the cooler water in the house plumbing! Lol

This is a concern of mine with the house we just purchased. Majority of the water lines in the attic are PEX. Two weeks before closing there was a leak over the water heater in the garage and cost the sellers $1400 to fix (plumbing and drywall). Which sucked for them but gald it happened before we moved in!

I grew up on Midwest hose water from a well. It's probably why I rarely get sick lol

Got lucky there. I have been changing my house out slowly from PVC to PEX.

Thanks for all the good info! We were going back over lease paperwork and discovered that the HOA used to cover owners insurance deductable if water damage happened. That agreement has been withdrawn in the last few years. We've also heard from others in the community that at least 3 other units have dealt with leaks in the last 2 years. Someone must've really cut a lot of corners during construction.

I wish I could be angry with the landlord. Well actually I am, until he shows up and is kind and sympathetic in person. He's just an airhead and tends to try and cheap out on things unless we push back.

Back in Ohio I was a dirt eating, hose drinking, country boy. Though you usually had well water that was either high sulfur content = smelled/tasted like bad eggs or high iron content = water stained anything it touched and tasted like pennies. Everyone either had softeners or filters.

We've got our dining room back finally. And hopefully the subfloor demo/repair will be started Thursday.

Good news for you is that the costs / liability should fall on your landlord, and you can withhold rent for unfit conditions. At least you're not bearing the burden of cost and inconvenience.

Bad news is your landlord can also ultimately kick you out if you become a big enough of a pain in the ass. So there's that.

@TailHook Same here, grew up in Glendale with cotton fields all around me for miles. The hose was my best friend after riding bikes all day. Still love the West side and currently living in Peoria.
