What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Super easy. Each side only took me about 10mins. No harness needed. It’s just plug-n-play

 

The plastic is very easy to remove. Some 10mm bolts hold the pillars on (1 driver, 2 passenger) then the rest comes right off with the plastic tool. The only other thing you’ll have to disconnect is a harness for the light sensor that’s in the passenger side tweeter cover. The DS18’s use the factory tweeter connector, no harness needed!

Took me all of 15min I put it off for a long time because I didn’t really think it was possible to make such a big difference, but I swear it really is a huge difference

Be sure to add some type of disconnect to the cables under the hood. Just so some asshole doesn't decide to short across the connectors and ruin your battery.

 

With the suspension set up, do you have a little bit of a rake? I have the same shocks, but thinking about adjusting to 1.7" in front, and 1" in the rear. I currently have 1.5" / .5".

Would you mind posting a side shot of your truck?

I am also looking to get the same wheels. Did you notice any "issues" with the tire / wheel set up (i.e. decreased gas milage, decreased throttle response, etc)?

 

That's an interesting point I didn't consider. I mean, it kinda defeats the point of having it if I still have to pop the hood. I wish that wasn't a reality of the current state of society

 

BIG mod today! Swapped out the little Taco radio knobs for the beefy RAV4 Prime radio knobs (PN 90010-23059). Just have to pop out the small bit of plastic on the back of the RAV4 knob and they slip right on. Easy peasy. Most of the time was taken up fishing out one of the old knobs that fell between the center console and the driver's seat.

I’d say there is a tiny bit of rake, but that’s basically what I was shooting for. In that regard, it worked out well for me! The alignment shop was able to hit factory specs on the OEM UCA as well, although I’m still thinking about getting a shop to install the JBA’s I bought.

The LT255/75R17 KO2’s go lock-to-lock without a rub. You can see in this pic, she’s cranked all the way to left, to get “tucked in” to the garage. Granted, I took off the front mud flaps as a preventative measure, but I’m considering putting them back on just to see.

As far as mileage…YTBD. Just finished the lift last night at 9:00pm, and the alignment was done this morning at 8:00am, so I haven’t had much time or distance to drive it yet. What little I have driven it, the truck seems to like the setup. No noticeable decrease in throttle response. The 6112’s put a dead stop to the annoying nose dive when decelerating. The ride is hard to describe, but I like it better. Not necessarily smoother, but much more controlled. Things feel damped like they should. So far, I’m thrilled with the results.

UPDATE: I’ve now put about 150 miles on it, and mpg’s decreased by almost exactly 2 mpg. About what I expected.

Truck looks a little silly on stocks for now, but Method 703's + Toyo ATIII's coming in by the end of the week!

 

I agree totally.

I keep it disconnected around city/public areas;
But then when heading out into the wild - I connect it and have it ready to go without having to pop the hood again.

Retrofitted light bar required modification of rad support air deflectors;

Actually I'm not even sure if this is necessary but wanted to keep what I could & I'm sure the engineers at Toyota felt they do something lol. They don't use a clip anymore since there is a screw there now, but the grill helps to hold it in place (red arrow) & I'll add some form of additional retention. Dremel tool was used for modification.

I may be the only one who retained them haha, I read they help with cooling so I figured why not.

 

They most likely do and you’ll probably be better off than all of us who tossed them to be honest. I hung onto them with the idea of putting them back in and doing something like what you did, I just got tired of them in the garage. Long run, I’ll probably regret that decision as everything I do, I try to make reversible to stock somewhat easily so maybe I should have kept them.

 

Appreciate the picture (very nice truck) and the information. I think I will pull the trigger on the wheels (Matte Black), and Falken AT3W 265/70/R17. And I agree with the ride. After I installed my 6112 / 5160s, it wasn't necessarily smoother, but more controlled and responsive.
