I recently traded my 2009 Tacoma in for a new 2023 model. The engineers and decision makers should be shot for putting out a vehicle with the transmission the 2023 Tacoma has. What were the engineers thinking? The transmission is the worst I’ve had in my life. The lag in response and the constant downshifting to get any kind of acceleration is so pathetic that it totally ruins the whole driving experience. Anybody else agree? Toyota makes a great product but they really dropped the ball on this one. Who, in the powers that be, would actually think this transmission is good for public consumption? It’s going to take a while to get used to stepping on the gas seconds before I need the power. It’s actually a safety hazard in my opinion. You decide to turn or pass someone and the response is just not there. The engineers should be fired, shot and then pissed on

This is the first time this has come to our attention here. You aren't new are you?

Nice to see with all the resources you had to research this problem you still went and bought the vehicle without test driving it?

Welcome to TW...I went from a 2009 to a 23, and it does take some getting use to.
Some people just drive with the ECT button on

Mine has shifted fine since day 1. No tunes or anything. Best vehicle I’ve ever had. Sorry to hear you aren’t satisfied.

You can blame me all you want for not test driving it but there were no Tacomas available to test drive and also Toyota has a reputation for good vehicles. Who would have thought they were that far out to lunch to put a transmission like this in their vehicles

Yes it is. After spending that kind of money relying on Toyota’s reputation it’s just down right disgusting

Burning question is, did you fail to test drive it before you handed over your keys and signed away $40k?

There are tons and tons of threads here about the 3rd Gen transmission and how it sucks. Literally tons of them. It’s a very well know “problem”.
