between me, my dad, and my grandpa, we have probably owned around 20 different rem model 700's and they have all been great guns with a little bit of trigger work and floating the barrel. but even out of the box they are still great guns.

If your scope seems like it wont stay sighted in dont be too suprised. Leupold makes a decent entry level scope 3-9x40mm for like 200 bucks. we've owned a few of these and have never had a problem with them getting bumped out of sight and they have a nice clean picture as well

 

Congrats on the new critter gitter. The 770 is not quite a 700 but should make for a fine hunting rifle. Make sure to post some pics after the hunts.

I just shot it over the weekend and JESUS DOGGY STYLE MARY, this thing kicks worse than a mule!!! And I thought my Mosin Nagant kicked... The .30-06 is 3x more kickback than the Mosin Nagant...

Even in the sitting, supported position, it was hard to control it and I didn't exactly hold it like a little bitch either.

At 50 yards, I had to aim 10 o'clock on the target in order to get dead center so I have some adjustments to make the next time I shoot it.

For $350, it's not bad but I wouldn't shoot it in the standing position.

 

The massive kick is probably because it is a synthetic stock. I have a .338 mag for elk that is the same way. i had to get a muzzle break on it after about a year. I would say try a standing shot. high powered rifles will rock your whole body back and make the recoil less than sitting where your back wont move at all. Unlike a .223, which im sure you have shot tons of since you have the EGA emblem, which doesnt have enough recoil to really push your whole body

 

I have a Rem 700 SPS in .270 and LOVE IT! I got it topped with a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40 scope and let me say that that is the best scope I've ever used. The SPS has a special recoil pad on it that really takes the kick out of it. It kicks less than my .243.

 

The 770 is a good rifle. The 700 is the step up and it is great pre64 When scopping out the country side remember to turn the scope back down to 4 power. I missed a BIG Bull Elk that way. Through the rifle up to the shoulder and saw a brown blur. I couldn't tell where I was looking so I adjusted and the Elk was GONE!!!!

 

Yeah I lost count on how many rounds I fired with the .223 but it recoils just like a .22 because I'm so used to it.

Maybe I'll get used to the .30-06 haha. Ammo wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. $18 for a box of 20 at Wally World (Walmart).

My next gun is an M1 Garand. Hope it doesn't kick as hard as the Remy 770!

For $350, this rifle is sure bang for your buck!
