Oil change threads are like the hunt for BigFoot TV shows. I know I shouldn't read them because I know it's all bullshit, but once I start reading I find I just can't stop.

Bro I ain’t gonna find you evidence on why to not eat poop. If you prefer to, makes no difference to me.

there is already proof of what and what not to do. Half of it is common sense (doesn’t require a PDF)
And many reasons why words on such a thing would not be openly released by a manufacturer.

Don’t change the oil. Blow it up. I get paid to fix it.
    Thanks again

Guarantee that OP is a seasoned TW member who was bored and felt like stirring the pot with a new troll identity.

Everyone loves piling on the oil every 5 train, but I want to know, how many of you oil-every-5'ers also:
    • rotate every 5
    • do the diffs every 15
    • transfer every 30
    • transmission and spark plugs every 60
    • power steering and brake fluid every 2 years
    • coolant every 100

Its all fun and games until its time to move the air intake. Then all of a sudden everyone has a case of "oh just do it every 100k or so. Should be fine."

Ha, change it when you want. I change mine at 5,000. I use a Toyota oil and filter, others will say that Toyota oil is crap, others will says it’s good oil. Do what allows you to sleep at night.

On another note, a previous post used God’s name in vain. Do you not think God heard you ?

    minor tweaks
Few of us will change our thinking based on the OCI anecdotal evidence presented here, it's interesting to read everyone's take on it though. Like politics it's all over the place. Long ago I decided to take an approach that many will find amusing. I've had to repair my share of poorly maintained engines, although the only oil related failures were in a motorcycle it left a lasting impression. My vehicles take me to some amazing and unique places, like everyone I rely on it. I don't drive enough to make oil changes a significant cost or effort, I'd probably feel different if I racked up miles frequently. When I did drive 50~70K a year for work they gave me a brand new vehicle about every 2 years. The fleet services took the conservative approach despite the vehicle manufacturer having almost an identical take as Toyota has. They all provided excellent service and a couple never spent any time in a dealership outside of a recall. Is that level of protection needed in the Tacoma? Possibly not but it's always served me well.

I sometimes ride motorcycles off road in remote areas, occasionally it's with someone who despite being a life long mechanic, takes the opposite approach (minimalist) to maintenance and oil changes, he's quick to tell you it's not needed. About 95% of the time it's served him well, the other 5% of the time where it hasn't it's a huge PITA for rest of the group since we're usually in a remote location, incidentally most of his bikes are a POS.

Last time I trashed a motor was when the air filter fell off my minibike and none of the motors since have had oil consumption issues. More anecdotal evidence and not worth much except a piece of mind. I've made a couple incorrect technical decisions over the years as most of us have one time or another. I've also see manufacturers make decisions that were sometimes a mistake, other then cost and effort there's no downsides to the conservative approach but for some that's significant in itself. My oil is recycled so I don't view it as a poor environmental decision. Like others on ether side of this discussion, out personal experiences form our view. Very little is written in stone. I won't tell someone they're wrong for their approach or make fun of it, that's their business and their vehicle.

    Change oil 5000 - takes 20 min
    Rotate 5000- takes 15 min
    Driveline lube 5000 - takes 5 min
Check battery level 5000 - takes 5 min
    Transmission/diffs/transfer 50,000 - let shop do it
    Spark plugs 30,000 - take 1.5 hours
PS and brake every 5 years - takes 1 hour each
Coolant 50,000 - takes 1 hour or less
MAF sensor clean 10000 - takes 5 min

Keeping up on maint isn’t that hard or time consuming.

I like a hybrid approach, where you pretty much either do that interval, double that interval, or don't do it at all. Basically, just raw dog it on everything and keep your truck guessing. Keeps it from getting too needy.

Plugs are not due at 30k though seems like a waste.
