Get off the road for one just because that is wreckless driving. Find an empty parking lot.
You should really try to use the rear brake to stop it from going over

Might want to keep some spare fork seals and fork oil on hand too. Seen more than a few wheelie kings blow out fork seals.

Looks like you’re doing the clutch pop which is good but not getting it high enough to reach the balance point. Adding throttle to keep the front wheel in the air is a recipe for disaster. Do it fast enough and one day you’ll set it down misaligned, which will result in death wobble. Not sure if you’ve had that pleasure yet but that’s one way to eat a horrific amount of shit.
That’s why everyone keeps telling you to find a grassy field so you can learn to find the balance point. After that, you can ride with the 12 o’clock boys all you want lol

A slight uphill helps so you can push against it per say.

That stated. Get off public streets, with practice like this, legalities alone, drivers are dumb

I hear standing on the footpegs seems to be easier than staying sitting when trying to find the balance point

But I've only ever achieved like 3 wheelies in my life, all power wheelies, so hell if I know.

Would definitely second/third the suggestion to do it in a private lot, either paved or dirt, definitely not on the street.

Took it up to Red Feather area, specifically the Deadman road network.
This is at the top of FS300, around 10,500ft in elevation.

This is the mess that CDOT left due to fresh oil on the road for 8 miles. That was not the most enjoyable experience to ride on. Little did I know how much of a sticky bitch that shit turns into. It's all clean now.

spot for lunch with a babbling brook.

Logging the hell out of it for the first time in a couple decades.

FS300 ties into FS173 and eventually dumps back to upper Deadman road.

Someone on here recommended this compressor a while back and it has been working great.
Nice compressor for the price. Appreciate the link whoever posted it up.

This was going to be my half ass submission to the pic contest thread, the lean-to in the back left with the satellite dish is the stage for the amphitheater at Mishawaka. They have a 15' fence surrounding the entire place now.

Left home at 12, made it back by 6:15, covered 160 miles and averaged 67spg. Still over half a tank left. :D

    Thanks for all the replies!

Grass would be bumpy and even harder to learn on than street, I would think. I asked my friend who is great at stunting and he said to stick to asphalt.

I definitely think fork seals will be in this bike's near future with the way I'm landing at times!

I definitely reached the balance point a few times (and went past, since I looped it), just can't find a way to keep it in the balance point, which is what I need help on mainly.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Adding throttle to keep the front wheel in the air is a recipe for disaster"? Do you mean chasing out wheelies below the balance point?

Regarding speed, that's why I'm keeping it in 1st gear and clutching up at around 8 mph and wearing all my gear so it doesn't hurt too much when I do fall off.

I hear you guys on the street, but I live in a packed city in California where it's hard to find empty, not-closed parking lots without security. This street was recommended by a few people because it's a dead-end street with little traffic, good visibility, good asphalt and it's divided so you're never riding into oncoming lanes. I really wish I had a safer and better place to practice but with the crappy area I live in I don't have that option.

Yeah, by “adding throttle” I meant chasing it out below the balance point. You don’t really wanna accelerate while learning this. Cover rear brake at all times to keep from looping out. I’ve honestly never even tried it on the road. I practiced this as a kid in the dirt. I do remember that it was fucking hard to get down and always with tons of room to improve. Took me ages (and a couple of fenders) to get to a point where I’d even try it in front of friends.

The nice thing about learning pretty much any type of “tricks” in the dirt is that once you got it down, it’ll be easy on the road, because asphalt is sooo predictable.

Grew up riding in the dirt and started riding street when I could around 18. Riding in the dirt definitely makes street skills better by far.

Reach out to local MSF instructors and DOT to see if you can get permission to use a training lot. If that's a thing. Around here the DMVs have a lot section for the MSF course/test, and they said if you ask nice you can get time to practice maneuvers and skills when it's not in use.

The 2022 Grom sold today. I did lose money but the buyer was super happy. Real nice guy so I am happy.

I still have the 19 Monkey which I really like better.

I haven't had any real issues with chasing it out but I'm also topping out at ~20 mph. I'm trying to chase them out to prevent the front from slamming down so hard but maybe I shouldn't do that?

Local DMV doesn't have a big lot. Most lots have planters and trees that make it hard to practice. There's one lot that I've been going to but there's usually some sort of security or construction there and not a lot of runoff room.

I haven't, I want to keep the speed low and don't have the pumping action down well enough to pull up in 2nd gear.

San Jose, CA, aka suburban hell.

You should check out Mrs Orcutt's driveway. It's kind of a famous place people including Road and Track would go to test out crazy stuff in SoCal. If it's still accessible you could wheelie there for miles.

When I say lot, I mean the one they use for the course. It has to be big enough for the up to speed and brake test, plus all the various maneuvers.

ive never heard of anyone consistently falling this often trying to wheelie lol. KEEP YOUR FOOT OVER YOUR REAR BRAKE. or just close the throttle and let the front come down, even if its hard and not graceful that bike is two feet long the front tire is dropping like 8". you'll get it homie.
