have footage from out parking garage. unfortunately i left it unlocked. Guy was targeting toyotas. checked every4runner and tacoma near mine and got lucky. So much for having a "secured garage" we do have footage of him getting in and trying to open other vehicles. He did have help and i believe they were able to get the plates off the car that dropped him off. Still dont know how he got it started

 

Hoping for the best man. Hopefully there isn't a newly discovered theft vulnerability in Toyotas like Kia/Hyundai

There's also a Colorado Stolen Cars page on Facebook I would look to add it to. Lots of eyes out there on that page There was an FJ just posted on there just a few mins ago and a Tundra yesterday too..

Edit: Scrolling on that page more and there's now 3 Toyota's within the last day or 2..

 

Anyone of here near gunnison or Blue Mesa? just got a text from someone saying they saw a silver tacoma with camper parked in a pull off. Missing a bumper. Just got off the phone with Gunnison PD and they are also looking into it.

 

This guy was definitely targeting Toyotas.

 

Isn’t there a known key fob RF clone attack on the 3rd gens? I think this is why some people keep their key fob/key card in a faraday cage/sleeve…

Today's adventure ride was up to Deadman. It's pretty easy to run these roads now that they have been graded since the fires. A Prius could run most of it.
End of FS300 at 10,500ft.

i dont have a fob, just a hard key. have a photo of the car the guy was dropped off in. They also stole multiple bikes and broke into another car in the garage. Plates are not readable from security cam sadly but the car they were in was also likely stolen

 

Saw a post about someone finding tide pods in their Tacoma's gas tank - apparently lodged in the filler neck. Bought an aftermarket locking gas cap on Amazon to replace the stock one. Didn’t have high expectations but it’s been solid after 2k+ miles. No check engine light or issues so far. Just thought I’d share.

here is an image of the car that the guy was in. There were four people in the car total, this subaru is likely to be stolen as well. this the most clear photo of the car we could pull. Meeting with the construction company tomorrow morning to see if their camera got a better shot of the rear plate

 

TRUCK HAS BEEN FOUND. it ran out of gas a couple miles away. officer says it doesnt look stripped or anything. stuff still inside purely just out of gas

 

Congrats and good riddance. Hopefully the officers assessment is correct and you haven't lost any personal items that were kept inside.

Maybe I need to stop giving my wife a hard time for never filling the gas tank in her Highlander. That tactic seems to have paid off in a big way for your situation

 

my girlfriend said the exact same thing haha. I unfortunately forgot to confirm with the officer if the go fast was still on it but i imagine if my shit was still in the back seat the GFC is probably still attached.

 

Glad to hear. Now go yell at someone for the “secure” parking debacle. At least get them to stop charging a premium for it.
