Going to go out and buy a sander so I can round off the edges with a nice radius but it's almost done -



Afterward I'll stain the wood with a nice dark cherry I picked up yesterday -

That's what I was thinking too, it's a second gen runner, absolutely worthless in stock form and worth even less all beat up with a ghetto LT kit that looks like it was made by ray charles.

 

Originally planned to buy a router to cut off those corners, but this is 1" thick solid.

Was looking at this to cut it with - But then I'd still need to clean it up and I don't want to buy more than one power tool for basically a single use.

 

You need a router my dude... and a sander

 

Router was my first go to but maybe I could find someone's saw to use

No, the end corners not the top/bottom edge

Yeah if I round off the top or bottom, it'll be too round and clash with the 'edges' and 'squareness' of the steel legs and base

 

Could always chamfer

 

I could, but not really considering it.

Rounding the corners off at each corner would be enough shaping for me.

Had this stand/top be for something decorative or what have you, a chamfer would definitely look sharp.

But I'm not a wood worker so no wood working tools for me

 

I should barter/source out my metal working for wood work in return.

 

It's a delicate balance but I definitely have more woodworking than metalworking tools haha

 

Fuck, I can finally put that metal stand to use.

I built a small one with a 1/4" top originally for my EVO saw but I hardly use the thing.

Could put a sander on top of it.

 

I mean I hate working with wood as much as the next guy but some of these tools, router, sander, what have you are so mundane that every homeowner should have them anyway. I've used my router a few times and later on you can turn it into a ghetto mill with your x-y table.

 

Yeah a router will definitely be on the list of to-buy later.

I'm a little salty after leaving my old one at the old house, along with a multi-tool I used for home renovation, etc. so you're right about that.

Those miniature CNC setups look legit though.

I'd recommend one you can use with one hand (go cheaper - more versatile). I bought a massive dewalt set forever ago and hate using it because it's such a chore to lock down

 

I picked up one of these cheap electric palm sanders from HF a few years ago, I've used the hell out of it on some of the old wood furniture we have (Rebecca loves antique furniture so I usually sand it down then stain them). This little guy has lasted way longer than I expected it too
