Oh man, definitely not around here. They’ll actually call the cops for trespassing. They absolutely DONT want people practicing on the course because then those people just take the skills test instead of the expensive weekend long safety class, which is the route the DOL/DMV has been pushing hard to get people licensed.

You already have your license, right? Then they lose nothing.

When I joined the Navy we had to take the MSF course to ride on base. I had been riding and racing motorcycles since I was pretty young so it was a formality for me. I had worked at a number of MC dealerships before ditching that career and joining the service so I wasn't your typical MSF candidate (the course was still a good idea). There were 2 returning candidates, one was just getting out of a cast from his first failure and the other apparently ran down the instructor during one of the test items. They kind of looked at me I was crazy, I owned a FJ1100 at the time, it's all I had and never considered taking it on anything else. The rest were KZ400s, enduros and other small to mid sized bikes. The guy didn't make it easy but the test wasn't difficult for anyone with some decent experience dirt or street. I saw how challenging it was for someone just starting to ride. The guy who broke his arm managed to crack his engine side cover that go around and would be a returning canidate. I think the hit and run guy just gave up on riding MCs.

I think the practice course is a smart move for new riders with little or no experience, often it's not your bike you're practicing on so you aren't risking your new MC learning the basics. Add in some dirtbike experience and it's going to make you a much better rider. Dirt teaches you quick reactions you never experience on the pavement without entering into a risky situation. When I worked as a bike mechanic, the state (FL) didn't require a test to get a MC endorsement, we sold allot of MCs often to someone stopping in that's curious about MCs who never rode one. The sales guy would give the new owner a 15min parking lot training session and sent them out on a 4 lane in So. Fla traffic. About 30% of my work as a mechanic was crash repairs and the roads weren't near as busy then.

Never, huh? I wonder why there's such a big market for cages, subframes, 12 bars, etc.

Friend rode my bike and said my rear brake is toast anyways. New pads and fluids going on soon (I will upgrade the line later).

This is the local DMV, there is no where to practice. The test area is the tiny bit at the top of the lot.

I was wondering the best way to put my feelings on it and a BMW T7 is probably the best way to put it (and that's not a bad thing!).

Huh, you ever think that your rear brake not working could be the reason you keep looping it?

those things are for stunt bikes guys are constantly doing wild BS in parking lots - not guys learning how to wheelie. definitely get your brakes in order for a number of reasons. I imagine the harder part is getting the bike UP, getting it down is as easy as tapping the brake or rolling off the throttle. youre going to get hurt or cause someone else to

Still more than 2 feet that was claimed and more than 8 inches off the ground.

Just spent an hour with the pressure washer cleaning the oil and asphalt grit off the bike. That shit was everywhere. Mud is fine, oil and grit sucks. Need to oil chain after it dries now.

It "works" but there's a huge dead zone that by the time I was pushing through it I'd loop. I'm new to all this (been wheelie-ing for like 5 days) so unsure why there's some hostile attitudes here...

Right, please tell me who else I'm going to hurt?

I'm a little surprised myself. This thread has been the one corner of TW that's all been welcoming, positive (even with criticisms), and helpful. :notsure:
