People become easier to control if they have a fear of something. Seems oil can produce that fear.

As I mentioned in other threads everyone does what is comfortable for them . For me it’s no oil testing .
5K oil comes out . New filter and fresh oil . I don’t care if it’s still good or not . I’ve done it on all my cars that used synthetic and never had an issue . Now could I go to 10 K and still have no issues ? Maybe ?
But I don’t care . Am I wrong ? Maybe ? But I still don’t care . My motors on all my cars are spotless
Inside so that’s enough for me .

I can guaranty that 5k~7K oci will not damage the engine long term. I can not say the same for 10k mile changes. And I don't think any honest folks on the forum can guaranty no long term damage with 10k+ oci.

I don't think anyones advocating for "+", so sure, the honest people around here will agree. "10k-" however, the honest folks probably disagree. The owner's manual calls for 10k intervals for a reason. It works.. Of course it doesn't hurt to change sooner, but to say you're going to damage your engine long term by following the manufacturer's guidelines, I think honest people disagree. Lets remember, a sample group of tacoma enthusiasts who change their oil early doesn't represent the entire population of tacoma owners, who mostly use 10k intervals. We should expect to hear of at least 1, maybe even 2 whole cases of long term damage if this were the case, right? Have their been any cases of engine failure directly related to oci within 10k?

We are all creatures of habit, I have no proof that going 10K is bad for my engine. I change mine at 5K cause that’s what I choose to do. The same applies to choosing a specific brand of oil. I have no proof that my oil brand is better than others. But I will only use a specific brand cause in my mind it’s the best. Engines are made better than ever before. Back in the late 50’s and early 60’s you couldn’t go 50k with out it smoking and using oil and you better get rid of it. Now engines get 200 - 300k or more. You do you, I’ll do me.

Well, I suppose it depends upon the engine; the straight six engines from Ford and Chrysler from the 1960s were easily good to go for two to three hundred thousand miles with regular oil changes (and the occasional gasket refresh) without burning oil. Many of those motor are still running today with hundreds of thousands of miles on them and are not yet burning oil.

I just remember my dad’s old Corvair, his old Ford Falcon, my sister’s old Plymouth Valiant, my brother’s old AMC Gremlin and my grandfathers 53 jeep all burned oil and smoked like a train on 40w oil, lol. But I get your point.

If you do everything the owner's manual suggests and if you plan to keep the truck 20 years, you'll spend more on maintenance than you paid for the truck.

    My vehicles:
Oil change- 10K. It adds up when you have 3 vehicles. Check air filter at this time. Replace as needed.
Rotate tires. Every 5K-8K. The tire store does it at no cost.
    Driveline lube-Never done it.
Transmission-Never, not once in 50 years of driving.
Coolant- Never done it. All of my vehicles have factory coolant and hoses. I might do it to my Tacoma when it hits 250,000.
    Diff's transfer case-150,000 miles
    Spark plugs- 100,000
    Serpentine belt-100,000
PS and brake fluid-Never done it.
    MAF sensor-Never
    Rear brake pads-100,000-200,000 miles
Front pads- As needed, usually 50,000-80,000
Rotors- Turned as needed. I'll need new ones on the Tacoma with the next brake job at around 250,000

Not on a regular schedule, but I open the hood every week or 2 and check oil levels, add washer fluid.

    Everything else when it breaks.
