Ours is Light/Mild and it runs and drives exactly as I would have expected it to from the factory. If I want to add some juice I can push the ECT button and off it goes. Pedal is smooth and responsive, with almost zero gear hunting. It's improved over time and hits 21+MPG regularly. Others that went with a more spicy tune will chime in. Still the best money I've spent on it to date! More about my initial experience here:

My experience with OTT is similar to yours, with the exception of mine being a manual. Where it's great for me is that extra torque at 1/4- 1/2 throttle, especially under 3000rpm. That's where I do most of my driving. OTT makes a big difference there for me.

Thanks for this! Drive a manual as well and wasn’t sure what benefits if any this tune offered the manual trucks. Great to see your Feedback, thank you!

anyone tune their 2.7 with OTT? what was your experience? considering getting a tune for mine. tired of the crappy low-end throttle response and gear hunting.

We've done a fair number of them. Hopefully they chime in.

Thanks for your interest in OTT!

Yes sir its a NIGHT and DAY difference over stock it helps considerably with gear hunting but does not fix the issue completely and that is no fault to OTT. The double over drive trans and not enough rear gear is the main issue. With the factory gears the 2TR just doesn't turn enough rpms in 5th and 6th which prompts a 4th gear kickdown. The tune fixes 60-70% of the issues but a regear to 4.88's or 5.29's would be a great addition. Lets take 60mph for example with factory gears 6th is 1700 rpms and 5th is 2000 which is too low and then 4th is 2900. At 60 with 5.29's 6th is 2050 rpms and 5th is 2450 which unless going up a steep hill or needing to be heavy on the throttle it wouldnt kick to 4th. I would highly recommend a tune it will make the truck drive completely different but wont cure all issues. I also have a LCE header which helped as well and i picked up a intake manifold spacer which i haven't installed yet hoping that can lower the tq curve a little and help.

I love the tune with my setup! It makes a way bigger difference than my regear did. I am getting a speedometer calibrator from Rough Country and I saw that it also adjusts the shift points. Will that interfere with my tune at all?

Glad to hear it's doing well for you! You wont have to worry about the RC unit affecting your shifts points. We use and endorse them and have no issues with them.

I don't think this has been asked and I couldn't find the answer. On the Truth Be Told page where you have all of the dyno runs, which setting did you use for OTT? Lite, Mild, Medium? Thanks

The actual calibration data (that affects actual engine output) between the different throttle settings you referenced are identical within our calibrations. We could and have built our files with 100% OEM throttle actuation for some clients and you'd find the actual engine output is identical. Simply put, there's no actual power difference between Lite to SS, as what everyone "thinks" is more torque with higher settings is really only the fact the throttle body is opening more for a given pedal input at part throttle. The only difference between the "settings" are throttle related which will have no bearing on output when the throttle is wide open.

Very informative response. Thanks. The info on those dyno charts is eye opening. I knew there would be a difference, but never thought it would be as drastic when comparing all of the different tunes.

But to specifically answer your question, the truck was on Mild.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to know that whichever OTT tune you go with you will have all of the same benefits regardless of which one you choose.

FWIW ours is Lite/Mild and feels like I'd expect it to run from the factory. Plenty of torque when I need it and almost zero gear hunting. Very, very big improvement over stock and still the best money I've spent on it to date.

Yep, I would say if you’ve just bought a Tacoma, a tune is the first thing you should do to it. Night and day difference and it makes the truck even more enjoyable to drive. Much more responsive and it just makes the truck feel like it should.

i got the 2.7 tune and i agree with this. i also had the LCE header first which helped the tranny kick down a gear less times on some hills it normally would kick down a gear. I'm wondering if its worth for OTT to have a tune for the 2.7 guys who have the lce headers? just the headers and tune will completey transform your 2.7, but as said before it only solves maybe around 50-70% of the problems. it might completly solve the problems if you live in a very flat area, I live where it is very hilly. supercharging the 2.7 is the icing on the cake and pulls really nicely in 4th solving that hard gear down to 3rd on bigger hills. my favorite difference with the tune is of course holding the gears longer on hills and shifting when im completely over them. another favorite difference is when im at a stop sign making a left of right turn and have to really speed up fast so i dont slow down the incoming car, it holds first longer in this situation which makes catching up to speed way easier and makes me have more confidence. if i remember correctly, without the tune in the same situation it would shift too quickly into second and have less throttle modulation compared to the tune.

Thought I'd update this now that I have some seat time. Not really going to add much about the seat of the pants feeling as my comments above are still valid to what I'm feeling now. The truck at 70 mph just seems to want to keep pulling... I'm still impressed.
But what I really wanted to update is the fuel mileage. I've been mostly running around the city for the last month plus so I was seeing only a slight improvement. Today however I did a 6 hour road trip, 3 hours one way and return the same route. Slight tailwind on the way there and no wind on the way back. Set the cruise at about 70 mph and let the supercharger work the hills rather than slowing down. Filled up twice. I got a 2 1/2 mpg increase both ways over what I usually got prior to the tune (hand calculated, maybe 1/4 mpg better on the way back). I'm very impressed. However, in full disclosure I did remove the prinsu rack and about 50 pounds of junk from the truck recently, so I'm guessing that may account for 1/2 to 1 mpg, but nevertheless I'm very pleased with the results if I still got close to a 2 mpg increase. I'm guessing at 60 mph I might (big might) get 20 mpg, which for a 2nd gen is right up there.
Keep in mind... 2nd gen auto with Mag S/C with 2.8 pulley, 4.56 gears, 255/75/16 tires, 2.5 inch remote resevoir lift, ARB front with winch and rear steel bumpers... so it's not a light truck. Your mileage will vary lol. Keep up the phenomenal work Justin.

Im in California. I still haven’t gotten my truck smogged since doing the cowl intake. But im wondering does this change anything woth the tune? If i switched airbox back to appease the visual inspection could the tune throw anything off for the smog

There are 100's if not 1000's of 3G Taco's tuned in CA with the various calibrations offered. None of them *at present time* present an issue with CA inspections as they are currently running things.
