I've searched repeatedly, but haven't seen much talk of tail light guards. I used to have a Civic for the past 10 years and I've already broken 3 tail lights since getting my taco from backing into things. Who's got tail light guards, what kind, and any pictures? Internet only shows one brand for like $120.

My Tacoma came with 3 rearview mirrors and a backup camera. Dunno how you can back into something 3 times.

Thanks John for real help. As for the rest of you...First time was the 2nd day I had the truck at 5am I hit the "bumper" of an 18 wheeler that parked adjacent to me after I had parked. Second time I fishtailed in a heavy snow and hit the guard rail. Third time was this past weekend, I was rushing to back into a spot, I was using my camera and just thought I could make it, but I was wrong... Like I'm the only one who's ever made a mistake.

People are just messin with you, no need to take it wrong.

Don't see these around much so not sure how much cheaper you'll find them unless you luck out and time it just right with some few and far between guy getting rid of them. Good luck.

I wouldn't count that one as backing into something. I would call that one a legitimate accident. Unless you were showing off and lost control.

Don't know if this is what you're looking for:

I bought a kit from backstopper, it's a little radar thing that beeps at you the closer you get to something. Very nice system if you have to constantly park in tight spots and I don't think they're that expensive.

Driving technique and finesse is going to prevent backing over stuff unlike flimsy taillight guards that can only take so much. Also, by buying taillight guards your anticipating breaking them so I say just take some time to learn about your vehicle, practice parking, and maneuver around in reverse.

Depending on how hard you backed into these things I am not sure what other damage would be caused with taillight guards on. Mine are pretty sturdy. I think I got them off Ebay.
us-autopartsdepot on Ebay is who I got them from. I put them on in less than 10 minutes and they are well built.

Depending on how you use your truck, those guards can be pretty good at catching branches and may cause more damage.

Exactly what I came into the thread to say. Often those guards do far more harm than good as they tend to grab branches. They provide a solid catch point for things that would have otherwise slid smoothly off the end of the truck.

    Just something to consider.

I just ordered some yesterday because sometimes when i get stuck my buddies end up throwing rocks, so I don't want my lights getting busted plus i thought they look cool.

Against my advice , my father was convinced that adding a set of guards would help protect his tail lights. He has a tricky stone wall driveway , and I have replaced 3 driver side and 4 pass side taillights since he brought truck home new in '09. As I thought , the damage is actually worse .. Since they stick out a bit, they do tend to grab stuff when hit.. (Fences, poles etc) Also, at his annual stone wall "meet", his bump pushed the guard 1/2 inch into the body .. AND also broke the light.. So now , he needs body work .. Truck has a camera , I guess he just doesn't pay attention.. I have since removed the guards . So it all depends what you want to guard against... Just my 2 cents.

So I've been seriously considering these ever since my boss busted his tail light in the work field. Would they really do more damage than good? I work with asphalt so we are always hauling trailers and whatnot
