image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg I’m an oil and filter hoarder with a catch can but hey fellers to each their own it makes me feel like I’m doing my Tacoma good
In all seriousness though I just enjoy spending money on the Tacoma and wrenching in general I run the fuck out of er but I give her plenty of lovin too.
Tbh, Idk if the oil separator helps anything or not I was surprised at how full it was and found that interesting enough to share. Wasn’t really trying to start a debate if it’s needed or not

you should drain that every 1500 miles or so. I wouldnt wait until the 3-5000 mile or more interval. Ski

not sure how well this shows up but this is 10k mile at 50k odometer reading. Not enough to alarm me but i plan on doing more frequent oil changes after 50k (every 5k)

Neither does a 6 Banger or an 8 Banger. But because people put them on and see what was getting pulled into the engine and re-used / burned up and sent through the exhaust, they think they need it. It's a nice to have, interesting to have. But nothing that you must have. Case in point - that 1.6 MEEE-Lion mile Taco doesn't have one.

Yeah that’s a lot I’d say whether it hurts anything or not

I don't know about a catch can but a Fumoto valve is nice to have when doing your own oil changes. It really does make the task of oil changes that much easier, what's not to like about that.

If the OP went 150 thousand miles without the catch can, and no drivability issues, this mod is not high on my priority list at this time.

I agree that they are not needed on the Tacoma. I have two cars that have dual catch cans but one is a blown 802 cubic inch in a 67 Camaro and the other a 4 rotor twin turbo 95 rx7.

On the other hand something has to be causing the burnt valves on the 3.5 in the Tacoma. ( And they seem to be the same valves in each case). I’m not an expert on the 3.5 but I’ve built enough heads, engines, and intake systems on my drag car to know that there is something there that is causing this in different vehicles.

My gut instinct is that it may be the oil vapors that are recirculated into the intake. Air flow moves differently in every single intake even the same ones produces on the same mold. That airflow dictates what vapor is picked up where it’s picked up and where it will travel and where it hits an obstruction causing it to condense back into a liquid. Once that happens gravity takes over and that cylinder is what gets the oil. Every intake is different hence only certain Tacoma’s having the issue.

    Sorry for the rambling.
