Should've asked OP if he was too tall for the truck and was hitting his head on the headliner......

OP I am not going to give you a bad time. We are all human and some here tend to forget that. Think of it this way. There are a lot of trucks and cars out there with horrible transmissions. Ever driven a car with a CVT? Auto history is a bone yard of crap transmissions or engines. Its really hard to buy a perfect vehicle. Don't blame yourself. At least you have a reliable transmission and truck. Be patient with it as the transmission learns your driving style and adapts. They take awhile to orient themselves when new. You made a good choice. Just adapt to it and you will get used to it. I did not read through all this thread so if I repeated some one else.... to bad :D

S mode isn't really manual shifting, it's a gear limiter. For example, if you put the truck in S4 it will shift automatically as usual but it will not go past 4th gear. It's not a true sport mode like automatic vehicles with paddle shifters.

Yes I am aware of that. But I still do it with my 4Runner without issue, especially when going uphill and downhill

That makes sense. If we had hills here that were taller than a speed bump I'd use it too :)

If you exceed a certain rpm, and speed, it will shift up to the next gear. I rarely use the S modes unless towing, and thats the way it works in my truck.
