What I will say is this, My 2nd oil change I did at 10,300 miles and it was black and gritty. From that point on, I do the change asap after the maintenance light comes on, somewhere around 6k, less if I have time.

Rhetorical question: I have driven my truck 200 miles since my last oil change, at the beginning of May. If I average the same mileage, am I gonna ruin my engine if I don't change my oil by the end of November?

Engineers probably didn’t write the maintenance manual. Marketing and corporate had a say.

Having a say does not mean they override the engineers. It's not like the engineers are going to design a truck that needs a 5,000 mile oil change and marketing comes by and says "let's just make that 10,000".

Plus this has been proven to be reliable. This is very comfortably a 200,000 mile motor as shown many many times

But muh TacomaWorld gotta change the oil every 6 months or every 5000 miles, or the engine is ruined.

I have an '08 Corolla that I change at 5K as recommended, and a '12 Taco that I also change at 5K which is also recommended timing. The Corolla oil looks new at 5K and the Taco looks black as tar at 5K. The Corolla has more miles, too.

Geez. What a waste of blinker fluid. If you don't know where the hole on the top of the headlight is ask - someone will come along and drill one for you if needed....

Idk, about muh, but a good number of tw recommends every, 1k or 3k miles. Maybe they just enjoy changing oil.

My favorites are the guys who claim they have grit in their oil after one interval, so they use a shorter interval to lessen the grit.

    Yeah.
I use 20K mile synthetic. It's guaranteed to work for 20K miles, says so on the bottle.

Imo, the only way that grit is getting into the oil is they must be putting it in there.
