Yeah... had them for a while now and I don't know if it's just me but I seem to be noticing more and more of them. I don't think it's rust though because they're on my plastic fender flares and front bumper cover also. Someone here was told by their dealership it was rail road dust that stained the paint. I've tried lots of polishes and haven't had any luck getting it off.

You should wax your truck to prevent that... Maybe it's too late though, I don't know.

I say this because before the Tacoma, I had a white 01 Mustang. The paint started to look like it was rusting. It looked like small dots of rust all over (like pores on our skin). I think it's due to the salt content in the fog since we live somewhere near the coast. I never did anything to fix it though but I would assume waxing it would help prevent it.

Mine had that. I did a claybar / wax and it hasn't been back. I don't think it was rust though. Rust color, but small specks in various spots.

x2, it's not rust because it shows up on plastic parts also. I'll have to try claybar, wax and polish didn't seem to do anything.

Could be something termed "industrial fallout" where airborne metal particles bond to the surface of your paint. I have the same thing on my white 2005 4Runner.

It is usually brake dust. Rub it off with an eraser. I thought it was rust too.

I have an 09 and mine is full of rust spots. The worst is the vertical post behind the windows, they stick out and eat rocks. They are full of chips, so is the hood. The paint on this truck it total garbage. I have a toyota touch up pen that I go around my truck with every now and then.

love the truck, hate the paint quality..

You shouldn't be seeing rust unless you scratch or chip the paint enough to see bare metal under it.

Sometimes every now and then you'll see a car that's gotten hit on the corner where some paint chipped off and it will be brown with rust.

In my case it was tar.

My truck is Silver, Drove through some road construction on my way to work every day for a few weeks and noticed a good build up of tar balls and crap on the paint, wiped them away when I washed it and it looked exactly like rust spots on the paint.
