Ope, just looked at a calendar and realized I can’t make the 19th. I’ll keep an eye out for the next one though.

You don't appreciate my sarcasm. That's a shame.

My line of work makes planning anything ahead of time a real PITA.

Good one. Seems like you're taking it personally. What's really funny is I've seen members bitch about having to drive across town, and yet here we are.

So does this mean your not coming? The meet up is 45mins from my house, don't hear me complaining about it.

"My line of work makes planning anything ahead of time a real PITA." Guess that's why we plan in advance so you can see if it will work. We all got shit going on, some just make it work when we can.
Sorry if this doesn't work out for you Paul...

You aren't first to roll in here and be that old man and probably won't be the last either.

Started the WI to AZ adventure this morning. Day 1 of driving done. Landed just west of Des Moines at a campsite for the night.

Welcome to AZ! Mid-west-to-NC-AZ for me. Just prepare for one approach into Phoenix rea so that your trip is a little better. Assuming you are driving I-40 across northern NM and northern AZ ... Albuequerque has a significant drop-off in altitude (and that truck is big ... drove a 20-ft u-haul across I-20 to the south of ABQ). Flagstaff-to-PHX is a drop from 8000-ft to-1200-ft mostly over a 25 miles stretch, so pay attention to signs abot "break checks".

Hiking here is amazing, and hiking trails can be accessed 24-hours per day over much of PHX. Get ready for everything drying out (nose, mouth, lungs, eyes) due to low humidity. You will catch the last of 100-degree days but missed the 115's ... next year then. Get ready for only dropping to high 30s at night during January and hiking trails at mid-70s during the day in January as well.

And if you have kids ... make them spend time outdoors even if they prefer to play video games inside ... do not waste sunlight.

AZ does not change clocks ... PHX currently on Pacific but will be on Mountain at the time change.

After doing the drive twice, once in a uhaul with a Corolla on a trailer and once with my 3rd Gen hauling a uhaul enclosed trailer I'd suggest staying on 40 till Flagstaff and dropping in from there. Not really ideal bc of roacd construction but better than the narrow winding road through Payson.

I "scouted" in September driving ABQ/Flagstaff. I moved in early January so opted for I-20 (the southern route) because I did not want ice/snow with a u-haul.

When I was moving here a few months ago someone warned me about I-17 as well, dropping in from flagstaff to phx. It was really nice to be able to mentally prepare ahead of time since I was towing a good bit of weight. I took it nice and slow and there were no issues.

Just got home from my trip at work. I'd actually love to show up and put faces to names and see if @prise can help me find the stick he apparently claims is stuck up my ass. lol. But I'm not going to call off from work to make this happen. And for the record, I have made some tongue in cheek comments in this thread not expecting anyone to get bent out of shape over it.... whoops. Can't help ya or anyone else here sort that out, and I'm not looking for any accommodation in that regard or for any meet someone wants to whip up.

I really do think it's great that you guys try to give a nice lead time for these meets. I couldn't even tell you what I'm able to do this Tuesday.... I may be going to work that afternoon or possibly Wednesday O dark thirty. That's par for the course with the Railroad. I will have some time off the 2nd week of October if anyone wants to toss some suggestions out for a spot/time to get together and catch up...

Every chance I get! But work also allows me to start heading down early and working from the road.

Wait a second. Tucson....Railroad...... I am trying to put 2 and 2 together here. Did I happen to try and help you find that stick up at sunrise this last winter?
