They don’t care if you changed it 9999 times before your 10k mile free-be

If you're under toyotacare, and trust the dealer to do an oil change, have them do it till its over. You've paid for it. You don't need a gazillion oil changes either. Just follow the manufactures recommendations for the use you best qualify for, while using a good synthetic, and filter.

...well why not 10 miles then, lol. The point is: we draw our own lines. I draw my lines at 1k for first oil change and 5k thereafter. I like those numbers for my truck.

I agree. I go through spurts where I do frequent short trips. 5k makes sense where I draw the line.

Doing early synthetic oil changes will only make the new rings harder to seat. It's completely unnecessary. If one has to do it, at least use a mineral oil. Sometimes you just have to save people from themselves.

In modern engines, cylinder rings seat within 100 miles and likely much less.

I wish that were true, but it takes far longer than that. For one, how does one explain the excessive blow by for at least 5k miles or better in these engines. Rings will only seat within a 100 miles if mineral oil is used along with building good cylinder pressure. They will not seat well if a full 100% synthetic is run.

Changing mine at 2k miles. Then every 5 or 6k depending on weather and time.

As a guy that sold auto parts for decades, it always cracked me up that people would replace their original no-lube u-joints insisting on joints with zerks so they could climb under their truck to shoot grease into them every X number of miles (or not), and the original went 150/250K miles.

I change my oil everytime i fill up my tank. In fact, i change it at the pump. Nothing can give me more peece of mind to keep my twin daughters, Unique and Monique, safe while they are in the vehicle with me.

Could it hurt-maybe-definitely not. Is it beneficial-no-yes. These are the answers you will receive about oil changes. I did mine at around 3k and looking to do it again at 5k then 5k intervals.

I doubt if there would be any appreciable difference between any of the brand name oils over the life of a truck.

We used core engines returned to parts stores for circle track cars back in the seventies. Some would come in with a lot of sludge (Pennzoil, Quaker State) because the oils used paraffin in them. Others would be clean (Valvoline, Castrol). No motor oils use paraffin anymore as far as I know.

But those engines had all gone about the same number of miles and had the same wear, and they ran good enough to use for circle track with a little tweaking.

It's what toyota uses to get their mileage ratings, plus have those long 10k mile oil changes conserving our resources. You'd get better results with mineral oil, but then a need to change it over far earlier. Many here would like that. It's what I did on my gen1 tundra....broke it in on mineral oil, then changed over to a synthetic. That was the best running engine ever owned.

They use 0-20 synthetic from the factory.

Yeah, but it's not to our benefit. Could be one reason some of these 3.5's run like turds.
