I get it, dealers are very good at convincing buyers to use their recommended brands for servicing items. They often get the oil free from that vendor for the new builds for recommending a particular oil. Rotella or any decent quality oil has never hurt any of my vehicles including the numerous KTMs I've owned. Someone on here mentioned 1000mi per qt which made me think about the recommended intervals and it's interesting that many of the MC brands somewhat follow that mileage periodicity.

Or when a suicidal starling or pigeon dives into your path. I'd much rather that mess be on my helmet than in my teeth.

Super ten by the book says 4k mile OCI's (with filter every other time), and 16k miles on final drive gear oil. And thats speced on conventional motor oil not synthetic. 5k mile changes with a good synthetic that has high shear strength likely wouldnt be a problem at all (especially if its say a long trip where you are just highway cruising, i wouldnt have a problem going 5k to get home without having to do an oil change on the road). Realistically though this 3k mile oil change was done a little early just to make sure things were good (as like stated this is its first oil change under my ownership after I changed all the fluids)... but also im essentially up on my Year of ownership mark, which means a year on the same oil.

Rear gear oil every 16k.... ehhhh thats pushing it. Maybe 8k... but then its all of 4$ worth of gear oil, so why not just do it when you do an oil change for peace of mind.

I think I'd just do both every 5k. Easier for me to remember, and I ride like an old man. :)

Similar to what Yamaha calls out for the FJR1300. I do 5k on oil and filter, 10k for final drive. They also want spark plugs checked every 8k. Now that I'm on my second FJR and have some miles on them I don't even touch plugs until I'm doing a valve check so they could be in place for over 30k or more and even then usually look fine.

Both bikes are on the same basic platform powertrain aren't they? Good to know that 5k is fine with the miles you are laying down.

I’ll just put GUZZI-Holic. I have 4. All I own. Rather than list the models…

that’s good to hear. Hate is a strong word, but I have been surprised with the arguments I’ve gotten on a couple Moto forums. Sorry for throwing that on yous guys!

Not exactly, Super Tenere is a parallel tin and the FJR is an inline 4. One of the guys I know who has done the Iron Butt Rally on the FJR and finished second, sends oil samples to Blackstone Labs for analysis. He's running Rotella T6 full synthetic and they've told him in his bike that oil can go unchanged for up to 11k intervals and that's on a unit with approaching 200k miles.

For fun I searched through the IBA ride finishers list. Only myself and one dude in Mexico have ever done a ride on a BMW R1250R. No one has completed one on a Tuareg 660 yet either.

List is easily searchable by rider name, bike, state, etc.

Added my bike list to my signature this morning as requested by someone on here.

Hi, I'm Bananaman, and I too have a bike addiction. I recently just bought my first motorcycle that wasn't a Honda, and was newer than the 1980's. It was a '04 ninja 250. Less than a month later, I bought a second one, this one an '06. I also currently have a '61 Honda C100, 73/74 Honda MT125 Elsinore, '83 Honda cb650sc nighthawk, and the 06 ninja. The 04 ninja left my possession the week or two after I got it so my buddy who just got his license could putt around on it. None of the bikes I currently own either run, or run reliably to leave sight of the house.

Sounds like you need a Grom because, according to the guys in here, everyone needs a Grom.
