What is 5 degress of timing worth?

    I just finished 2 rounds of tuning with the first on 91 octane and the second on 85 octane. After hours of driving and probably 50 flashes of the ECU, each ignition map holds pretty much rock solid at -3.0 on Knock Feedback. Ignore the -2 values, I live at a very high altitude so i wasn't able to cover those areas.

    This is the delta between each of the maps. (91octane minus 85octane).

    This got me thinking, what is 5 degrees of timing really worth? Looking at other dyno graphs, the 2GR-FKS has about 170whp at 4000RPM (100% load). Remove roughly 20% for air density and it should be around 136whp. In the dark orange area on the right side of the graph, 4000 rpms has a timing difference of -5.2762 degrees. Is there a rough estimate of how much power I'm loosing by running 85 octane?

    Ignition timing is the quickest and easiest place to make power or lose it.
    5 degrees is a lot especially in that low rpm high load areas. I don't know of a rule of thumb for power lose and Ignition because each engine is different but you can watch plenty of good quality dyno videos for other engines and see what they do.
    Personally I think you are leaving a lot on the table with the differences I see in your table.
    I am close to sea level and I can get 8-10 degree difference on 87 to 93

    These trucks love octane. I’m running e20 / 93 for about 95.5 octane and my timing is great. Pretty much maxing out at 30 degrees near redline.

    Are you the same guy from taco nation that has been posting about blending e85 with 93?
    I do agree that the 2grfks loves octane as it allows it to run a ignition timing that makes power.
    On my e85 tune 34 degrees seems to be the sweet spot.
    If you are tuned then I would expect a bit more than 29 up top.
    Get a log of it from 4.5-6.5 and plot it.
    On 93 octane mine averages 31 but it depends on the ambient temp.
    In super cold weather I have seen 33

    yes, I am on there too / OTT tuned. It has been rather hot. I see much more advance under partial throttle but timing under WOT, from what I understand, is all that matters. I think 31 - 32 is the most I have seen under WOT in my limited logging / depending on gear.
