Local dealer is having a demo sale. Got my brother to buy a heckler CR with 400 miles on it for $4570 OTD. He’s not picking up till next weekend, so I get a complete week with it. :D

Best part is they told me since it’s never been owned by anyone Santa Cruz will honor as a new bike.

I also told him I’m going to have to either invest in a tow rope, or buy their last one depending on how much fun I have. E-Bike for after work rides and MTB for longer weekend rides.

Thanks! It all makes sense now. Doesn’t seem very secure to me.

E-bike for after work rides sounds solid. A guy on Instagram, fit4racing, made a good point of how much an e-bike can help you keep your training in z1/z2. I know my HR spikes on basically any climb so that would help a ton haha.

Problem is once you go ebike the motivation of pedaling falls off and you mainly stick to the ebike, so I’ve heard.

Ive heard it’s like that at first simply bc it’s new, once the newness wears off you ride the bike your fellow riders are on or what you’ve got time for.

Not really. I ride the Decoy in the spring, when I'm not in great biking shape. Then only very occasionally throughout the summer (probably 10% or less) when I'm pedal-strong again. I have 2 other buddies on full power ebikes also, so we occasionally go out. They also only ride them about 10% of their rides. We are all full-time weekday workers. It'll come back out in the late fall when the higher elevation stuff is done and I'm relegated to flatter trails.
Thing is, as fun as they are, and they ARE fun, they simply don't have the same feel. Of course everyone rides for different reasons, so that might not hold up for all. But for the pureness of riding a bike in the woods, ebikes take some of that away.
That being said, I still love taking the ebike out to explore new areas, quick after-work romps, tired-legs days, and getting to trails with impossibly steep and long climbs. They are also more fun on those flatter blues where speed makes the trail way more fun.

Yesterday I went for a longer ride, in a new area. Good times, great views, and not a lot of people. Just what I needed.

Snuck to Vermont this weekend for a bike trip with some buddies - was supposed to be a washout but the weather held up well. Rode the Mad River Valley, Killington Bike Park, and wrapped up with a few pedal downhill laps at Saskadena 6 (formerly Suicide 6). The Fezzari Delano Peak really shone in the flow tech and handled the downhill bike park fine (granted I don't get much air, like the more rowdy tech trails).

Saskadena 6 from the Parking Lot. The Climb trail is about a mile and 600' of elevation - not too bad, but legs started to fill up after a few laps.

I would totally ride an eBike if the primary purpose of the ride was to get from point A to point B. For example, if I wanted to get up to an Alpine lake to flyfish but don't want to hike all the way up with my gear.

You guys must be fun at parties!

Kuat rack has been solid for me. The rear tire has a tray that tilts back with a Snowboard binding-style strap combo'd with the front tire locked in nice and tight. She ain't going anywhere.

Just did about 2500 miles on the back of the 4 runner behind the motorhome which is similar to a covered wagon in ride quality down some pretty shitacular roads...

    Bike was still there

    Side bar:

Bummed I never got a chance to get out in Flag... We were pretty busy with all the truck stuff.

If any of you guys are looking for a rad zone to check out... the Cinder Hills OHV did not disappoint.

The 11-6 is already plush and the CC Link just makes it uber-plush. The CC Link is probably over kill if you're running coil, but it sure makes my back happy. I actually had to use the climb switch on the Push for climbing!

Broke the chain yesterday. Slapped an extra xx1 chain I had on for today and gave it a quick 11 mile ride. Idk how to tell my brother he’s not going to have fun riding with me now lol

This thing is a rocket ship. I rode in boost the whole time and it made even flat trails more exciting. It’s ridiculous. They really are perfect for after work rides.

i haven’t decided to buy one yet, as I said my brother will probably get bored riding with me since he’ll have to wait. On the downs I’ll still win, but those flat blues he’s gonna dominate me.

E-bike people probably prefer riding with other e-bike people, but if he’ll give me a tow up the mtn idc either way.

I’d love to get a longer travel, light weight, lower power, Tq motor rig. If Trek applied the Fuel eXe program to the new Slash, that would be hard to pass up.
Not a replacement to the Arrrival, just an addition. It would replace the Decoy though. Don’t really need the full power and would love something that’s still snappy.

Which explains this optical illusion. I thought you were tailgating an RV. ;)

Glad the rack was secure and not what we thought. Looks like great times were had by all.

Has anyone ever worried the tension on your 1up puts stress on wonky areas on the frame?

I’m no physicist but I push hard so it doesn’t come loose and it seems pushing front wheel forward would push the steerer tube forward at the headset which I know can be a failure point.

coming from years of Thule/Yakima trays where it compresses the tire downward so I could be naïve

I have also been wondering that. I doubt it puts the frame under more stress than us riding the bike does so I’m not too worried.
