I wouldn't worry about it. Lots of 200+lb guys casing jumps that put more stress on the frame and components than a 1up arm.

yeah that's an interesting spec especially that cheap one. Although the Transition Relay is a similar bike and like $1700 more. I do think it is a better spec though.

My 12-14 year old Yakima tray rack works like that too. I've travelled thousands of miles and up some pretty bad roads with it and never an issue. HOWEVER it was designed for bikes 12-14 years ago when wheelbases were much shorter. It's about at its end of useful life if I ever get a longer bike than I have now.

For anyone interested in this, I bought this same pad a couple years ago and have been happy with it. Solid deal at $99.

You can't even tell that's an eMTB! Also, why did they put a lyrik instead of a Zeb on that thing?!

I know these eMTBs are super fun and have some really good use cases. I'm just being a curmudgeon about it, but I hate how much attention they are getting. I am not looking forward to the day that I am forced to buy one because everyone I ride with has one and I can't keep up.

E-bikes are the next big development area and has the most growth room in the industry. I am a bit concerned like you said that in 5 years e-bikes will be the norm and us acoustic riders will be left in the dust. So much R&D is being put into ebikes to make them lighter, more battery efficient, better motor usage, etc. that non-powered bikes will most likely be the red-headed step child in brand lineups.

I am sure one day I will cross over, but I have seen first hand on a couple accounts what e-bike usage does to a persons fitness and stamina over time. As more of the riding group adopts ebikes, the rides and elevation get longer, but the heart rate endurance and physical match burning becomes less and less; get on a regular bike and your matchbook has way less sticks to burn when you need them. To be clear, that isn't to say everyone follows that path and loses fitness, but without a clear game plan to ensure that does not happen, it seems to creep up over time.

I also think we just don't need to be building more battery powered things in the world. Apply the energy usage to industries that need it.

    Again...

Interesting take, I'd be curious to see which direction this goes. From my point of view, when it comes to mountain biking fitness, I think ebikes will help a lot of people both on and off the bike. At this point, I think a lot of experts agree that zone 2 training is quite important for endurance and overall longevity (who knows if they will still agree in 5+ years). I think a lot of people are riding well above zone 2 which doesn't help endurance, a lot of the time it hurts endurance especially if you are constantly redlining. Add in an ebike where you can train in zone 2 on a mountain bike much easier and I think people will be better off from an endurance point of view. Getting in a lot more zone 2 training enabling them to ride longer.

People will need to push past zone 2 to get stronger and faster but I don't see an issue at all if people just ride in zone 2 with no training above that. If you're racing, yeah you absolutely need zone 3+ training, otherwise not a big deal.

I'm even more curious about an e-bike to replace my short 5 minute drives to the grocery store. I'm seeing more and more e-bikes in my smallish town and I'm all about it. I live in a county that really doesn't like bikes so the more people on them, the better off we are.

I would agree in some concern about R&D for acoustic bikes but I imagine it will be like lexus and toyota or acura and honda. Lexus's from 2010 have tech that my 2017 tacoma barely got. Eventually the tech will trickle down.

also, I don't own an e-bike, I just think they would be a great complement to anyone's bike quiver.

When we get e-bikes, we’ll have to to some scientific testing

I haven't considered the idea of an ebike being tailored for more Z2 rides. I know my father in law was told he needs to keep his heart rate below 160 and his Levo Turbo talks to his heart rate monitor via an app on his phone to increase assistance when needed to stay within an acceptable range.

With the way a couple of us ride together, Z2 is a moot concept on the trails. Maybe as I get up there in age and need to be more considerate to my heart and other organs I will pay more attention. The current idea is to race up a climb and try not to implode at the top.

True, even still... how much more can the modern MTB be improved on? When I saw Canyon's K.I.S system, it seemed like the industry was grasping at straws.

    Ah, Wall-E, that's....

To each his own, my ebike is the least ridden in the garage. Come winter that changes a bit, definitely keeps me moving when I'm not motivated. I'll never buy a light weight eeb because that would be too tempting to ride all the time..
