Im happy to pay the techs for their time if I feel the befit out weights the cost of time and stress to me attempting it myself. If they do insist on a markup like you mentioned, it’s probably be enough to sway me to try it myself, and maybe call a mobile mechanic if things go south.

I just mean parts are a little harder come by for this or especially an 80 series as opposed to a 2012 Focus. It takes a little more effort to get OEM stuff at a reasonable price.

No way dude, you are extremely entitled and by your recent comments it truly shows more now than ever.

You had a Land Cruiser, let it go.

    You have a Tacoma.

Parts are plentiful both in the aftermarket world as well as OEM.

It's like Zane said, you want to have your cake and eat it too.

But you also want the shop, or any shop treat your vehicle like it's a ZR1 LT5 when really it's a common truck you see everywhere on the streets.

I was just curious as to what the shop wanted to charge, my only question.

Many people here replace them at home; my question was one out of curiosity only.

I don’t see how it’s entitled to explore your options and avoid getting price gouged, whether I had a Nissan Sentra or Pagani Huayra. If it’s really gonna be as expensive as Zane is saying I’ll try replacing the dam thing myself. I’ll let you all know here when it turns into a train wreck.

Get yourself new rack bushings, and tie rod ends.

Inners come with the rack as mentioned before, but it'd be nice to have all new components relating to the steering system.

the new rack comes with 2 of the 3 bushings, the clamp bushing you have to get separately though

unless he wants to do poly ones. But I'd just run those brand new rubber ones it comes with installed

Yeah, the one that has that D clamp or whatever it's called that sometimes gets bent on some trucks. Some company out there makes a billet one as a replacement

the poly bushing kit with all 3 is cheaper than that, could just order the kit and put the poly one on there

Between the red and black, one is supposed to be slightly firmer than the other

Anyway, it sounds like the typical markup for a part is 25-50%, hence me wondering where that figure came from. I could see it being that much if you went to the local dealership maybe.
