CPVC is notorious for getting brittle and then cracking if you mess with it. Flo-Gard CPVC is supposed to be better, but I won't use it. Been transitioning to PEX for the water lines and SCH40 PVC for the drain lines in my house. The old thin copper drain lines are starting to rot very quickly. They're close to 10 years over their expected life span of 50 years...

    Rusty,
I have seen 180 psi on farming wells, so 90 psi is probably fine

Not so much the pressure but what it is being pushed through

    Old PVC does get brittle!!

Rusty suggested that earlier too. I gave up and called the pool place to send a maintenance guy.

Just what qualifies as a kitchen ?

I have always had what I call a kitchen in the Shop.

Yea, my neighbor has 180 psi and my house has 90 psi. I changed switches to 40-60, just because I don't need that pressure.
Another reason is line length. Further you push fluid, the more pressure required, and 90's and Tee's take a bunch!

I have no idea how deep our current well is, we live on the top of a hill now. The well to the house is maybe 75'.

I'll have to look and see if there are any papers that say anything about the well, the previous owner kept pretty good records and didn't take them when he left (passed away).

It also really, really matters where you take the pressure reading. At the well head? At the tank? Best place to take it is at the furthest device that uses water, for example a sink or a outside hose bib. It might be 60 psi at the tank and only 20 psi at the hose bib. Normal houses have 35-45 psi depending on where you take the pressure. 30 psi is minimum you should expect.

All the usual amenities, I have seen apartments less well equipped. ;)
I used to make pretty ambitious meals there, not so much anymore.

No rust or corrosion anywhere I can see except the outside of the casting. This is the bore after a good soak in the cleaner. The pictures make it look a lot worse than it does in real life.

The piston has a couple of tiny wear marks right at the skirt. This is the bigger one.

All this high pressure well talk and here I am stuck with a 40/60 switch and I know damn well (pun intended) I'm not getting that outta my faucets. All the piping needs upgraded to 3/4 I imagine. Heck, even my cistern pump with a 30/40 has better pressure than the well... :annoyed:

A 1/2" copper line comes up from the basement and serves everything, the switch is a 30/50. It all works good enough.
Fortunately there is very little plumbing in the house, the water heater is located between the kitchen and BR, hot water only takes seconds to arrive at either.

I think my issue could be the old water softener. However funds are at an all time low and I just found more termite damage in the basement. Thought I had old damage, but there's some new that I hadn't seen before. Gotta call in the pros on this one I think :annoyed:
