    Hello all!
I jumped around the forum before posting but I'm stumped as to what the part I need is called. So I have a new alternator that tested well as well as new battery. I had a previous mechanic that replaced the alternator and broke the clip to the pictured wire that fastens the two ends together and didn't bother telling me. The truck kept dying afterwards and they kept bleeding me money on other things they would break then fix. Any way I saw the cables were not connected and so I reattached them at the plug, electrical taped them together, and the truck was good for months but now not so much...For background, this is a 1999 Tacoma V6 4x4 TRD.

It's a 4 pin going to what looks like the alternator to the fuse box. Also all fuses are good.

Any ideas what to call this so I can replace the wire or clip?

You can't put a zip tie around it to keep it plugged in?

I'm not sure which connector that is, @caribe makaira any ideas?

Please elaborate how you can tell this is aftermarket.

I've had no issue running aftermarket alternators.

I hate derailing a thread, but how did you come to the conclusion this was aftermarket?

I've had great luck using the zip tie method keeping connectors together that lost their retaining tab.

Loop around the entire thing and snug up. Better than new and easier to disconnect when you want to unplug. Just don't use El Cheepo zip ties. Spring for some quality versions.

As for the alternator not charging the charging system is very simple on 1st gens.

    At the alternator.

The large White wire on the stud comes from the ALT Fuse 80A (Voltage here should be the same as battery voltage at all times).
Pin 1 (Yellow) is the wire to the charge warning light (The alternator grounds this wire to turn the light on).
Pin 2 (Red) is ignition power from the Gauge Fuse 10A (Should be battery voltage with the key on).
Pin 3 (White) is the voltage sense wire coming from the Alt-S Fuse 7.5A (Should be battery voltage at all times).

Check those 4 wires and see what your missing.

Okay I'll try some zip ties as long as I'm getting voltage through the wires.

    You're awesome thank you!

Also thank you to everyone that jumped in
