Just a bunch of old crap
    x2

I travel all around the country for work and play all year and having Verizon on my personal phone really holds up. I get reliable reception, reliable enough to use my DroidX as my GPS when I rent cars. I also carry my work Blackberry on AT&T and it's never reliable. I watch my coworkers constantly having to go outside or find a good spot for reception, but I'm inside talking, texting and browsing just fine on Verizon. I also tether it to my laptop via bluetooth and I get strong enough internet to use my VPN connection just fine, too. Sucks to carry 2 phones, but I know I can always trust Verizon to work better than the rest (averaged out over the entire country). Every phone carrier has their "dead zones", including Verizon, but they are much fewer and far between then all the rest.

I think Its a move that will help AT&T alot.

They will be able to use all of T-mobiles towers. Which means more signal per square mile. Never a bad thing.

I know right now the biggest issues with networks is getting the permits and approvals to build new towers etc.

I've had AT&t for quite a while now and have never had any issues, so im happy the company is being proactive in their infrastructure development.

I've had AT&T since I've had a cell phone (well, Cingular back in the day) and I've never had any issues...

Based on my location my opinion rests with Verizon being the best network provider available.

Through my work provided cell phone I have been on Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and NexTel before and after they merged with Sprint. We finally made the jump to Verizon and BASED OFF MY LOCATION, Verizon reigns supreme.

Sprint had major voice issues and tons of dropped calls, AT&T had crazy dropped calls and voice issues, T-Mobile had like ZERO coverage but descent voice and minimal dropped calls, NexTel wasn't half bad but ZERO coverage. Verizon has coverage EVERYWHERE here and good voice and almost ZERO dropped calls.

AT&T buying out T-Mobile will increase their coverage ability but will drive up prices and I suspect Sprint and Verizon getting more customers.

All in all I believe your choice of carrier depends on who has the best coverage in your area.

I think regulators should strike this down... it will set up a precedence for the faster consolidation of the wireless service industry. What would stop Verizon Wireless from buying out Sprint (same technology, and sprint would be a distant third in providers)... then there would only really be two options for cell service in the US. Verizon Wireless or AT&T... stifling competition. Price go up... service goes down.

I'd like to see Verizon Wireless and AT&T broken up into at least 4 companies and Tmobile and Sprint being left alone... combine that with the smaller providers (US Cellular, MetroPCS, etc) would provide adequate competition and cause significant improvements in technology and service

I'd also like to see the oligopoly (Verizon (parent of VZW) and AT&T) on network infrastructure (landlines, node, etc) broken up.

Exactly, think about the limited development that occurred during the BIG AT&T (Ma Bell) days... once that was broken up, there was an explosion in technology over the next 20 years.

I think with this consolidation we are headed to a Ma Bell wireless situation. Besides, Verizon and AT&T already control a majority of the network infrastructure which supports the wireless network. (Cell phone signals still travel via the hardline network) The other provider have to pay to use this network.

So if Verizon and AT&T control the whole system what is encouraging them to innovate?

I looked at Sprint this past summer when I was due for a new. Glad I didn't switch. Most of the areas I am in Sprint doesn't have service. It looks like sprint is only good in Big city areas. I was suprised on how much dead areas they have near Athens,GA.

I'm happy with Verizon & my droid X. I rarely drop calls. My wife has At&t & is always having trouble making calls or sending texts. Her Son's phone would not make calls from inside our house.

I have been in the middle of nowhere south Georgia(Sylvania,GA. Farm country) & had full service with Verizon. While my wife with At&t lost service an hour north of where we were.

My household has been T-mobile the past two yrs. It's time to renew our contract. For the price T-mobile is amazing. The smart phone selection isn't the greatest. But w/ the att merger, t-mobile customers will have access to att phones now. Which means iphone. Personally, I think att was about to go under and they knew it. Especially since Verizon picked up the iphone. Everyone I know w/ att hates it. Only reason they stuck w/ them was for the iphone.

I work for AT&T on the land line side and install the carriers for the cell towers. IMO there are going to be only two providers in the future VZW and ATT the rest are going to be little wireless carriers that ride those networks. It wont be long and VZW will buy sprint just a matter of time. With sprint they use to own landlines and spun that off along with all there debt to embark which filed 13 and is now century tel. The wireline industry is not growing and companys are taking a loss on maitaining the lines. This is why most are putting in a fiber backbone for the cellular industry most sites (towers) have several vendors on that site so coverage is the same in most spots with the exception of company owned towers which are far and few. I use to work for Bellsouth which was a great company untill ATT took over. I see in the future that ATT will sell there wireline and be a wireless company selling everything off towers. The wireline will still be the backbone for the carrier but the price of the fiber will be cut so much that copper will not support any of the cell sites. Get ready for 2 wireless providers and a spun off wireline ( maybe a local phone company) selling dial tone from a utility company.

I have to agree with that lowinhz. It's looking more and more like it will come down to 2 wireless companies although an article I read today said that Verizon had no interest in buying Sprint. I think what will happen is that Sprint will eventually fade away or will just go belly up. That leaves us with 2 wireless carriers and that is where solus694"s point comes into play. Having a Nexus One phone, I am NOT looking forward to being forced into replacing it because of the buy-out. This is the best phone I have ever owned and it's 100% pure Android with no crap ware.
