I recently had a need to move back to a half ton for some towing requirements. Had a 2010 Silverado 1500 for about 7 years - it was a great truck. Recently was upgrading from a 21 TRDOR - after getting all my 'requirements' squared away, my priority order was: F-150 Max Tow / Tundra (new) / Tundra (old) / Silverado 1500.

F-150 was by far the most capable (for my need) and i liked both 5.0 and 3.5L - but I just couldn't pay $60K and dealers wouldn't budge
Looked at a new Tundra TRD OR...never even drove it because the interior was so cheaply made, rattles (when parked), rough plastic, etc.
Tried finding old body style 5.7L Tundra, preferably 2021 with under 15K miles...they're out there and you'll pay a premium, over $50K

Ended up getting my 4th choice, back in a 5.3L RST Z71 Silverado with 10 speed trans. Only 3000 miles on it, but over 1/2 of that towing in Idaho mountains. It's very comfortable, powertrain is really nice....~22mpg on highway, ~18 in town, ~14 towing. I despise the new infotainment system, although it looks good, and having a hard time getting used to a full size over my Tacoma.

I'm interested to see how the 4G Tacoma's turn out - especially engine / trans combo and real world towing...may go back one day.

Think it is all relative, have long list of repairs on all the Toyotas I have owned. Here are the major.

My ‘85 4Runner engine went at 125K, the replacement engine’s crank bearings went at 100K.

‘92 wasn’t bad, only ran it to 150K, clutch and ball joints.

‘99 needs a timing belt and waterpump every 90K, that engine went to 435K, so not terrible, however did need major repair every 90K.

We will see how long my ‘21 last, won’t really know until I get at least 200K miles on it if it is any good or not.

Nothing is infallible, I keep on coming back simply because I like Toyotas, they seem to fit me and my lifestyle. Almost bought a Ford though, like those too, even if all the controls feel out of place, been driving Toyotas too long, their controls placement hasn’t change much over the past 30 years, my hands fall naturally on them.

Oh this big girl has 85k miles of warranty left, she’s got a home for a bit. I’d get it to rig it out and keep til I sold the truck in the future.

I will say that it can’t get out of its own way in mud. It’s also the crap duratracs that came on it, but the Tacoma and wrangler were infinitely more nimble in bad conditions off pavement.

I think we will get a smaller truck. If you type Toyota news into google all you get is a bunch of news how the dealers all want a smaller truck

Good luck with that. Maybe you’ll get a 2024 by 2025…if you’re lucky.

I'd like to have that 250 on the the top. The new one piece grill pictured looks similar to design as the one on the Bronco, not that it looks the some. I did like the LED projectors on the 502A from the 14th gen better than the new design. LED across the board is a functional improvement and that regular bumper looks better than 14th gen. The only thing with the one piece grill, you can't throw the King Ranch grill on an XL with the chrome package, it doesn't look like you can. The price went up with the redesign, as nice as the 12" screen is I'd rather have my $2k in my pocket.

With the price increase on the F-150, base Tacoma is sure to see at least a $2700 increase.

They were going in dry without lube here selling the base models with the steel wheels for $15-$20,000 over MSRP.

Anyone who buys a Maverick 15-20K over MSRP deserve exactly what they get. Or any vehicle really...but since we are referring to Mavericks

Those 80s Ford’s were good looking.

Was eyeballing the SR Tundra, but those come with a 22 gallon tank. See the new F150s cone with 36 gallon across the board, and they bumped up the 2.7 ecoboost power a bit too, similar to the base Tundra. Still waiting to see if they kept the Super Cab, saw a spy shot but nothing so far during the release. Only crews with a stumpy bed.

You can build and price the new F150 at Fords website and the extended cab is still available in XL STX and XLT

Looks like Rapid Red Metallic is back. STX V8 4x4 3.73 rear locker maxx tow haul, BAP tow mirrors and spray in bed liner. Not sure if I like the lime accents on the heat extractors, looks like it's on one of the wheel spokes, and piping on the seats.

They kept the super cab, the configurator for 2024 F150's are live on their website and they allow you to build with the super cab.

I think Ford should offer Toyota free lessons on how to release a new vehicle AND the configurator with pricing at the same time. Radical idea I know!

Jesus that’s ridiculous, Ford shows the MY24 last night and less than 24 hours you not only see pricing but B&P.

At this point it seems Toyota has no clue how to price the Tacoma.

I really can’t tell if I like the new Tacomas or not, fellas. The outer styling looks good for the most part and I like some of the new offerings such as the Prerunner trim, but watching a few video unveilings, it all feels and looks kind of cheap to me. The lightweight hood and tailgate with a button instead of a handle are examples. I don’t think the average truck owner needs those kinds of things and I think that they’ll fail to hold up over decades of use.

I generally dislike a lot of newer cars for all the tech, flimsy feeling materials, and overall durability, and the Tacoma appears to be following suit from what I’ve seen and my judgments from watching YouTube videos. It’s got some nifty things to show off, but overall I’m very happy that I was able to pick up a 3rd gen recently. Toyota makes a great car as we all know, but only time will tell if the new Tacomas are worth all the hubbub. I genuinely hope that they are, because it would be a shame for them to not hold up and ruin the Tacoma’s reputation.

Sweet! Was wondering if they killed it off because of “crash regulations” like Toyota did with the Tacoma. Goes to prove Toyota is just full of shit and being cheap, but by golly they can build a pointless hybrid and idiotic suspension seats.

I know right!? Fricken Toyota is so lame…

Agreed. That one of the dumbest vehicle purchase things I’ve heard.
