Redline 75W-85 good to go?

I know most just use

$28 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75W-90 but I ordered the Redline 75W-85 to service my front/rear diffs. I searched on here and found very few posts about it since again most just use 75W-90 it seems. I'm assuming it's fine since it's what the manual calls for but just wanted to make sure nobody on here had any issues with it.

 

Any proper viscosity will work, brand doesn't matter

 

It's fine spec wise.

While Redline is a fine product, it (like many other boutique lubricants) is over priced for the use case.

Regular OTC lube, even in a syn, is just fine.

 

You'll be fine with Redline, but you would also be fine with anything ranging from

75W-90 up to 85W-140. Diffs are not picky.

 

Changed mine to Redline 75W-85 @ 5K.
Currently @ 45K.
No complaints here.

 

I really prefer the "flex" bags now. I know valvoline and amsoil sell them. SO much easier and faster to fill the diffs.

 

Fluid brand does matter. Cheaper oil lacks good friction modifiers; this equals wear. Quality oil is packed with zddp and a better running machine. Particularly your engine for doing 10k OCI’s. This is why M1 Euro formula is a favorite. 0w-40 is a fantastic weight for cold start protection yet higher heat protection. Highest amount of wear packages for an M1 oil, except for their 15w-50 race oil. Redline makes very good oil.

 

Note the topic was gear lube, not oil.

 

Same principle same additive packages. Higher quality product. You get what you pay for in many aspects.

Are you a tribologist per chance?

 

I’m an engineer / project manager and I understand how friction modifiers work. I have spent time researching the subject and looked at many oil analysis from varied engines. I’ve rebuilt multiple engines and even balanced one. It’s also common for the gear boxes to have high amount of metal is your did a UOA. Many people charge this oil early too. Enthusiast is what I am.

 

I used Redline in my diffs. Has been great in hot/cold, towing, and 4Hi in the snow. About 15k miles in

 

Personally I’ve had good luck so far with Amsoil maybe placebo effect but everything seems to run smoother since I made the switch for me its
Amsoil 75w90 severe gear for diffs
Amsoil 75w90 for transfer case
Amsoil ATF signature series
Amsoil ATF signature series for power steering
Amsoil 0w30 signature series

 

Dude. There are many engineers here, including me, who have worked with fluids for 30+ years. We can smell bullshit a mile away.

 

Do you CrossFit by chance? You know CrossFit and Amsoil owners easily... they will tell you within the first two minutes....

I'm also a certified engineer. But I don't know fuck all about oil... so let's not use that as a qualifier.

I've been closer to the source than most engineers... the Caribou tell me it's all the same shit.
