    Relevant/Related - all my computer experience is related to this phenomenon.
    My father an engineer (electrical) and my mother an astrologer (part-time) were wanting something more powerful than the HP calculator they had purchased previously for $300. This was this new IBM you could have at home. My father built all sorts of spreadsheet formulas to calculate loads and other electrical phenomenon. My mother much preferred to BUY someone else’s formulas/software. See… Maths (and computers).

    I can relate! In several of my Electrical Engineering courses in college, I and many of my classmates used spreadsheets in designing circuits for homework assignments/semester long projects. You get the formula, then just plug in values for resistors, capacitors, inductors,...... until you get as close as you can to whatever the desired outcome was. Back then, I personally used Borland's QuatroPro spreadsheet, since I have never been particularly fond of MicroSloth, but today there isn't really any chooice.
