There are a zillion "groups" that produce "studies" about retirement. They include a shit ton of factors, such as housing costs, insurance costs, quality and availability of health care, cost of food, cost of gasoline, income and property taxes, what the legislative focus is at the State level that could be good or bad for retirement aged people, weather conditions year round, local entertainment/events/venues, ..... but of course no one can paint a broad picture and take into account individual preferences.

My ideal state has very low population, real mountains, snow, and politically conservative. But hey, Arkansas has some decent traits, though it would not be on my list, either.

    It's Shave Day.
I'm bald so that involves more real estate than most and had some pre-cancerous spots froze off my scalp the other day. Couldn't shave while it healed. Made me look like a hairy rotten cantaloupe with a mustache. I don't mind a little 5-O'Clock Shadow or even a 2-Day Shadow, but the amount of homeless face shag I've accumulated is starting to scare kids in the grocery store.

I think it's good enough that I'm going to GENTLY give it a go today.
And then probably wear a hat.

My wife's family lived in Conway (near Little Rock) for a few years back in the 70's. Her dad was also in the computer/I.T. field, and they moved all over the US several times over the years for his jobs. MA, southern CA, Arkansas, Minnesota, northern CA..... It wasn't on the list of considerations for our big move last year, but if her folks had decided to go back to AR, we likely would have followed them. We both would have preferred somewhere out west, like ID/WY/MT/UT, but her folks had enough of the cold when they lived in Minnesota in the early 80's, and her dad has COPD, so higher elevations were out of the question. Both my parents have been gone for 10+ years, she still has both of hers. I managed to convince her to keep making all the memories she can with them while she still has them both, so we ended up here in KY near them. We love it here very much, so we are happy where we ended up.

Watch your back and document things! See this all the time in the medical world. Young Male doctor comes in "knows" more than the female RN with 30 plus years. Some guys just can't admit weakness. Keep smiling. Makes them wonder what you're up to!

Good morning. Laundry day and might go skating tonight. Wish me luck.

Oh, Southern Missouri and Arkansas are the most "free" places in the Country. Thousands are moving there to get away from what's happening across the Country.
Same as Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas and so on.
