Last day of wrenching was weekend before Labor Day, pursuing tuning now. @Mynameisbrandin operates 4LoFab in NB and can get you taken care of. And if you wanna tune your truck, I got what trucks need.

 

Of course you did, because I just talked myself out of "needing" a tune on the 4.0L a couple of weeks ago. Is it worth it on a stock motor, or should I throw on some headers/exhaust first?

 

it’s worth it for stock or modified. Let’s talk about what performance upgrades your doing. Of course the biggest performance upgrades are proper maintenance.
Spark plugs replace: 30k miles
AFR/o2 sensors: 60-100k
MAF and TB clean: 15k
Air filter clean/replace: 15k

keeping up with all that will make your motor super happy.

next up headers. Long tubes are getting hard to find. Only real availability is in the used market. Short tubes w/ cats are available. It’s very important to make sure that the exhaust is sealed well or fuel trims will suffer. Cat back exhausts are very close to the same. Air intakes, I like AFE with a dry filter best. When you combine multiple performance bolt ons is when you see the most dramatic power increase.

whether or not you tune your truck first, or add everything, then tune, you’ll get an increase in performance, better trans shifting, and increased fuel efficiency. I can also adjust the pedal response as well

 

Thanks for the heads up on the AFR/O2 sensors at 100K. I'm at 120K and haven't replaced those yet.

Another question about tuning...I'm on 265s right now but planning on going to 285s. I know I'm not going to be able to regear right out of the gate. Should I get tuned after the 285s go on, or does it not matter? I assumed it would affect shift points, but I'm not sure if that's true.

 

you can do before, and once you get your new tires, I will reflash for free to update the new tire size.

Fancy. I’m working on a Hilux next weekend. Just suspension swap, but it’s a cool looking truck. Owners brother bobbed the bed, so it’s even shorter than that one you have pictured.

 

Mine looks a bit small based on the pics, can't imagine something smaller. I saw ones with longer beds but they were narrow body models. I didn't want it to feel too much like a clown car. This one has the LN-165 chassis.

What year are you doing the swap on? I'll probably want to do a small lift ~2" on this to clear bigger tires.
