Don't overthink it. When the dealer resells your trade for $45k, the dealer collects the tax from the next buyer. At the end of each month, the dealer takes all the tax it collected (for vehicles, parts, services), subtracts all the tax it had paid (for vehicles, parts, tools & equipment, overhead), and submits the difference to the province. The sales tax is a "value-added tax". You may have seen the abbreviation "VAT" on European web sites; similar principle.

For other businesses, the net tax may be negative, so the business gets a tax refund. Imagine a store selling mostly non-taxable goods like milk and bread, but still paying tax on rent, utilities, facility repairs, etc.

If you google something like 2024 F150 has lower payload you will see their logic. The new max payload is the 2400 lb or so number so it still keeps the payload higher than the other 1/2 tons but they don't offer the HD payload package anymore.

That sounds like an awesome plan, and I actually was thinking the same thing when I was talking about hauling the camper and towing the trailer. I don't do the dirt bike thing anymore but same idea exploring fishing/w Atv that would be perfect for as well.

For people who actually haul stuff. I don’t wheel my truck, only use it as a means to haul gear and the moto, trails I like you can’t fit a truck. Why I think DCSB Pros are mostly useless.

One of the guys I know Tundra setup. Pull the bikes out and toss in a cot for camping. He also has a TT when his wife goes. Uses the truck only when he is solo.

This is where I was last week, was supposed to be out there today but had to run an animal to the vet this morning, so I am stuck at home, and conversing with you knuckleheads. :p

6’ bed is barely enough, have to augment with a trailer. Would like to ditch the trailer altogether. Which is going to happen when we retire here in a couple years, bikes in the truck so I can tow a TT. Don’t want a toy hauler because of gas fumes. I am ok with it, but she isn’t.

Hey Sheldon Brown, I use the shit out of those access doors! Ha!

    Depends on the state.

In the People’s Republic of California even if your trade is worth $64,000 and the car costs $65,000, you get to pay the full $65,000 tax.

This was "all-weather flooring" and only available on the 2nd gen Pro and it's predecessor TX Baja, if I remember correctly. i.e. you had to pay a lot more to get plastic floors in the Tacoma.

    Not anymore. I got carpet.

You think it would be part of the utility package.

Sorry meant it was standard in the 2nd Gen SRs. But the kit should fit the 3rd Gens too.

Can confirm that the Democratic Republic of Oklahoma functions the exact same way. However tags are way cheaper. My truck was about $124 versus when I lived in the 303 it would've been about $1,100 (2.5% of MSRP typically).

wow I guess we're not doing to bad up here in Canada and no marks ups for the most part. Years ago when the dollars were par everyone would go to the US to get their vehicles

Id like the option to reduce taxes with a trade, but the flip side is the private market is usually healthy in CA because a dealer trade is such a bad deal. And if you are selling a Honda or Toyota with service records it’s gone that week for likely 10-15% more than the dealer would have given.

No trade = simplified new car deals as well.

    Ok cool thanks!

Yep that is the plan, trying to appease the both of us, that is the best compromise I can come with. She always wanted an airstream, and me a truck camper that can also haul bikes. So why not both?

Would do a Sprinter, but the tow capacity isn’t any better than a Tacoma.

Think an ATV would fit perfect in there. Wanted a Tradesman topper like my buddy’s Tundra as I don’t necessarily need a pop up, but they went out of business. Pandemic killed them. ovrlnd is as close as I can get, plus they do custom work. Who knows they might be able to build me a non pop up version, haven’t asked yet

I'm kind of in the same boat, I also would like a lightweight truck camper set up for my adventures (fishing etc) that I primarily do solo. But there is also a need for something a bit more comfortable (airstream) when the trip is not solo. I could make the Tacoma work for both, but there is a lot of compromise that I won't have to make with a bigger truck.

I was hopeful that the new Tundra would be a solution (I like the day to day fuel mileage in the new one better than the older one) but its turning out to be kind of a turd, so I have some thinking to do.

I am on the fence but I may just compromise since the costs of everything is so high, who wants to spend all the money for adventures on the adventure equipment..lol

Me personally I don’t need much, heck I do a cot under a topper right now. But the current trips aren’t more than a week. She doesn’t need much either, she would be ok with a pop up trailer, but I don’t want to mess with those things. That and if we are going to be full time on the road definitely need to be more comfortable.

Could make the Tacoma work, but man that is tight with all the gear. Maybe if we didn’t ride and camped only. Do a Bambi or an Oliver. It isn’t enough truck. My 3rd Gen was just something to hold me over anyways until I fully retire.

Looking at inTechs too, and honestly probably better than an Airstream for half the price.

It is hard to beat the airstream resale, in some cases if you factor Airstream resale in, its actually cheaper than most any other RV you can buy in real dollars....but it sure doesn't feel like it while you are paying for it...lol.

I like the Airstream Basecamp, I'm just not sure the Airstream resale is gonna hold on those models just yet. I've almost pulled the trigger on one every time I am at the airstream dealer..lol

Yep that is the thing, resale is a consideration. Like Tacomas they hold their value. Not sure if fulltime on the road is right for us or not, so keep the house and rent it out if it isn’t. Then sell the camper if we don’t like it.

We live 5 minutes from the Airstream dealer, really hard not to swing by there every day and kick tires… lol!

Looked at the base camp too, be ok with a half ton then. Also looking at Black Series and MDC, since I do tend to look for out of the way spots off of Forest Service roads. Think I would more comfortable dragging those down dirt roads than an Airstream.

Not posted to this thread yet. This pic is probably the best view I’ve seen, way less cartoonish and less exaggerated. Which makes me think these are going to look really good in person.

Like to see an SR5 and OR in this color.
