I don't think I'd ever take my dog on the bike. If I wreck and hurt myself, that's one thing. If I hurt my dog I'd never forgive myself.

I would def do it on holidays (think thanksgiving/christmas, not new years/4th of july lol) or early mornings on weekends when I know the roads are gonna be especially empty. But otherwise...yeah it'd be tough

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
My dog would see something and pull my into the woods! Somehow it would go south.
I tried riding with him once on the trail, ran his ass over once and that was that.

Then again he is a Catahoula. That’s what they do is bay, they don’t chase.

This is Huck! Meaner than a gator with a vise grip jaw!

Yeah that’s Samm. He was a cool cat. Ended up taking him on as he was stuck as a kitten up a tree for 5 days. Wouldn’t come down, finally I had to get involved. Ended up taking a boom truck.
Some say…cats will always come down. Not always the case.

That makes sense. I ordered a Power 5 rear today so will try that out. Right now I’m thinking performance over longevity for the 701. An extra set of dirt tires/wheels would be nice to get at some point. Or maybe a dirtbike instead :D

an all I can say is watch out! Riding in the dirt is addictive, and once you roll to the deal side it’s hard to get out
I will say it would make your riding skills on the road step up big time. There is just so much more happening on the trails. I love it, can’t get enough. I am 45
And hit 3 parks a month and ride almost everyday. It’s the only way I can live in this jacked up world; otherwise my head would implode ;)

That’s awesome you get out that much! I do want to ride dirt, probably spent more time on quads than dirtbikes so I know I’d be a total noob. Agreed the skills you pick up definitely translate and that’s why many road racers also ride MX, flat track etc. I’m turning 41 next month not getting any younger so need to make a plan for something

I still miss my sporty even though I have a softail now.
I’m 6’1” and I had mine with forward controls and short z bars and it fit me perfectly where I was tucked in nice and tight but never felt cramped. I’m looking to buy another one soon to add to the stable.

I'm still doing it @ 64, started @ 10, it's probably my most enjoyable life long activity.

    +1

Dirt riding has taken me to some of the most scenic beautiful places I have ever been in life, places that very few go. A dirtbike (with a street plate) is the pinnacle of freedom to go anywhere.

I need to make some changes in life to get back to riding dirt more, the people, the places, the fun are something I miss so much.

Hell ya just found a new take off set of rear leafs for 150 bucks local. Mine are sagging plus they are the ones prone to break.
