    I just installed a supercharger on my 2.4l engine, feels like it hesitates at lower rpms. I did unplug the battery for almost a whole day so maybe the ecu is just learning again? Barely have 100 miles since install wanted to get some feedback.

    I’m running the stock injectors with the FMU with TVS1320.
    DEPENDING on your altitude you probably can use this setup.
    The new supercharger setup because it’s sooo more efficient is now showing my injector duty cycle at 50 percent on the stock
    pulley and will be around 75 percent with the smaller pulley at 6000 feet were it was at 95 percent.


    EVERYTHING is different with this new supercharger and if not the FMU works great for me with the stock injectors and haltech

    Running that small of a pulley will overdrive the blower. I believe driving it outside of the spec RPM range. So do it at your own risk

    This makes no sense. If you're injecting less fuel, you're ingesting less air as well. Are you sure it's duty cycle that has dropped?

    I’ve run the 2” and then had a custom 1.9” pulley made.
    Probably over spinning the bearings but that just that small window when you hit red line,
    Never had any problems tho

    I will probably put it on this spring. Very rarely do I hit limiter so most driving won't be over spinning it.

    New to TW and this is a great thread.

    I already have a 2000 4Runner that had the TRD SC installed back around 2004 w/TRD headers and TRD transmission oil cooler. Just put a boost gauge on it last year and will see about 7psi of boost. Always run Premium gas and it has 150K miles.

    One of these days I might put a SC on my 1995 Taco and this thread is a wealth of info. It would appear that I would need to change my ECU to a 1997 or later? Any guidance on this ECU change would be helpful to my planning.

    You should ALWAYS have an AFR gauge to know the health of your fuel system

    Yes, after plowing through the first couple of pages of this thread, I can see how helpful an AFR gauge can be and your gauge recommendation is in my notes.

    Dealer installed the TRD system over 20 years ago so it is all stock TRD. Neither my brother nor I have been hard on the engine and all appears well. I do have the timing belt on my radar and when I do that I'll be changing the SC oil and get recommendations on what other items should be considered for replacement on the SC.

    Are you doing anything for fuel and timing management? To get the most out of your SC and maintain engine health you should be.

    Do you have 2-step lower heat range spark plugs instslled? A higher flow fuel pump? Changed the fuel filter lately?

    My 4Runner w/TRD SC is purely stock as it was configured by the Toyota dealer under my brother's watch around 2003/4. Belt changes and fuel filter changes have been done.

    AFAIK the stock fuel pump has been getting the job done but at 150K miles I'll be thinking about changing it on a preemptive basis in the near future.

    Would you have a recommendation for the 2-step lower heat range plugs and a basis/explanation for using them as well for the fuel pump?

    It's too bad that only having the OEM ECU you are really limiting your potential. If you are not getting any ping or pre-detonation right now, that is good but you are fortunate. For most that isn't the case. Unfortunately, it also means there isn't much you can do to improve things performance wise.

    Adding fuel and timing is the way to make more power, but if you do that, the OEM ECU will immediately reduce both because its primary purpose is to improve fuel mileage.

    Alright, I finally made it through all 4000+ posts here and I think you all have almost convinced me to dive into the supercharger deep end. I am putting together the list of everything I might need to get with the new TVS1320 so I can do this right the first time, while also trying to keep it as cheap as possible. From what I gathered through this thread and other forums/websites, I think this is the suggested list. Can anyone think of anything else I might need or is there anything in this list that isn't necessary for a budget build that plans to keep the SC stock at least for the near term?

    • Supercharger (duh)
    • Automatic transmission cooler
    • Spark plugs & wires (should I stick with stock for the new SC, or are the two step cooler ones still recommended?)
    • New intake gasket
    • AFR gauge (is the Innovate PSB-1 still the go-to?) and mount of some sort
    • Injector cleaning/replacement (planning to get a second set since this is a DD, should I just find used ones from a parts truck and have Motorwest refurb, or just buy the upgraded Motorwest ones that say they are not meant for SC setups?)

    Application Notes: 2003 double cab with ~232k miles, automatic, primarily a daily driver at sea level, but sometimes go up into the mountains (east coast, so nothing too big like those out west). Plan to keep the stock pulley (for now at least...). Replaced the fuel filter probably about 10k ago, but haven't touched the pump or injectors (but only have owned the truck since ~216k miles so maybe the previous owner did).

    What are you going to use for fuel and timing management?

    Yes, 2 step cooler spark plugs, Irrdiuns or Rutheniums.

    Plan was to stick with the stock ECU and fueling system for now, since magnusen says the stock tune/equipment should be fine (at least while keeping the larger pulley on). Do you think I need to make any changes to fuel and timing with the new supercharger if everything is kept in stock form for now?

    Being at sea level where the air is densest and using the larger pulley may help, but it is too early to be certain on that.

    FWIW, Magnuson makes the same claim on their previous generation of their SC for the 3.4L and not everyone is able to be ping free without a device that overrides what the OEM ECU does.

    That is very fair, I guess I might be among the first ones to try it out and see how well the 20 year old stock system accounts for the new design at sea level. I'm not against making other changes if needed (i.e. if I have pinging issues), but I would like to not just buy every fuel mod and/or piggybacks/standalone systems just for the sake of it. I might give it a shot with the stock setup and dig the rabbit hole deeper as needed from there.

    I'd avoid Innovate for AFR gauges. They have software issues that render O2 sensors useless, logging ability leaves much to be desired, and their displays are poor

    I'd look at AEM next, and get one gauge for each function (avoid all in ones)

    Interesting, it sounded like a lot of people ran and liked the Innovate gauge, I'll have to take a look at AEM. Why do you say to avoid all in one's? Personally I would love to just have one gauge to look at for AFR and boost, and not clutter up the dash/A Pillar if possible, but also want a reliable solution
