Rav4 Prime doesn’t qualify for the tax credit in 2023 because finally assembly does not occur in the US/North America.

The people in charge (on both sides), and their cronies, are getting paid. Working exactly as they intended.

One of my favorite videos on the subject of EVs. Just because it has no emissions doesn't mean it effect the environment heavily.

"Don't forget. It makes more sense from a green perspective to keep your old car running and well-maintained as long as you can. There are significant environmental costs to both manufacturing a new automobile and adding your old car to the ever-growing collective junk heap."

Haha for real. Multiple independent studies have indicated that act will actually raise inflation. Smoke and mirrors

    Yeah.
We got a RAV4 XLE Hybrid AWD for my daughter. Cost difference between that and a non-hybrid was pretty minimal. They actually have decent clearance. Swap the tires out and you'd be good to go most places, and it regularly gets over 40mpg. It's actually fun to drive.

Whens the EV motor primarily kicked in? Everything Ive read says the ev only mode is basically a gimmick, but does it help at stoplights and stuff?

    Yeah.
If you are in a 35mph or less zone (neighborhoods, parking lots, city streets), it will run in EV mode quite a bit. But hit the accelerator hard and the engine will kick on. It has a screen that shows what it is doing, switching between EV, charging the battery, charging + propelling. The rear wheels are driven by electric motor only, and they probably only kick in when absolutely needed. The transitions between modes are really smooth. But yeah, the engine does run quite a bit. Either way, it is super peppy and really consistent on gas mileage at around 40.

I'm somewhat of an engineering geek, and the hybrid system on the RAV4 is pretty cool. There's an instructor (I think from some university in Utah) that has some good teardown videos on YouTube. The Tundra/Tacoma hybrid system works quite a bit differently, which is probably a good thing, but appears to improve gas mileage much less.

I think they are a great Outback/Forester alternative for those looking for a more "outdoor oriented" crossover. I'd be cross shopping the RAV4 Hybrid and Outback (turbo) pretty hard if we were doing a like replacement for our Outback right now. Outback slightly bigger and more power, RAV better mileage. But really...that Land Cruiser

Bike question for all on this quiet Friday...

I recently got rid of my commuter and have been riding my titanium hardtail semi-regularly as a commuter. It's currently set up primarily for trail riding with some 29x2.25 XC tires, flat bars, and a Pike. However, I ride it mostly on easy trails and commuting more than anything else. I've been debating converting it to a drop-bar with a rigid fork and gravel tires as that would make it better on the commute while still keeping some capability for singletrack. I'm worried this will make it a bit too neutered down for my liking if I do wanna take it on a trail ride. There's really no issue with it now but I'm always looking for little bike build projects and feel like this could a really cool build.

I do also have a cyclocross frame in the cellar that I could build up as a gravel bike/commuter and we have a cargo bike for commuting as well.

    Thoughts?

if you're worried, i woudl take the cx frame and make it a commuter. and bonus points for it being a potential gravel bike. basically, go the other direction in bike capabilities instead of neutering your hardtail.

That's a tough one. Honestly, I'd probably go a slightly different route and go rigid with flat bars (maybe some different backpacking bars) and possibly faster rolling 29er tires.

There's something to be said about a fun metal full rigid mountain bike for commuting. I used to ride my rigid singlespeed bike all over when I was in college and that was always a good time.
