Hey there - for those looking for a new Taco. Joined long ago but drifted away due to getting on with life at the time (and low contribution here haha). Simon's Mom allocation mention in the post above inspired me to write something this morning , so thanks! As well as trying to get back into all this again since I'm "retired"...

Anyway, quick run down - I also got my usual 10 year itch for something (2003 OR -> 2013 OR -> 'today'), plus (opinion here) wanted to get in before the turbo change-over in '24. I'd been to Handy's last Monday just because if I had to wait for delivery it's closest. OK I guess at the moment with individual who I dealt. I originally put my name on a MGM DCSB OR due to be built two weeks from now / due in "whenever-ish". Three days later swapped that to a same time frame MGM trail. No money to hold for first right, so that was kind of cool. Was not in any hurry for delivery so was fine with the whole set up.

Fast forward to two days ago (wed), saw something interesting on the Heritage site and called. It was already gone, but then he stated I have "this thing" here on the lot. Wasn't showing on the web page but he verified it's sitting there. I immediately went down and they were still pulling plastic wrap off for me to test / inspect, so no extra finger diddling or mileage! Ended up getting paperwork set up while I was there, picked it up yesterday, got it home under cover before the rains >>> OR DCSB MGM for the win!

This post? At the moment I still have my name on the future MGM Trail allocation at Handy's. I'll probably wait until Monday (7th) noon-ish to let them know to let it go unless something is REALLY bad with the new baby in the next three days. If anyone is interested this will show up. Or even, let me know and we can try to coordinate switching to you or delaying my drop for a few days after Monday. I know how tricky and timely it now is to get something you're interested in, so trying to help out a little if possible.

FYI - for reference if you're thinking about trading too, I got 14500 and thought it was fair. '13 OR manual, 102K. Original frame was in fantastic shape rust wise. Suspension and diff was OK / so-so but still mechanically fine. I had fluid filmed the first weekend and every other year so I think it really helped all along the way, plus for trade in value. INspectors always commented on how good the frame was yet. Of course we all know this, but for newcomers really recommended to do something even if not FF. I myself will be renting an open top cargo box and a crane, dipping the new truck up to the windows in the big vat of fluid film. That ought to coat "everything"!

Sorry for the semi-long post, just had to do the new-truck-adrenaline vent! On to tricks and pieces for new baby.... now where's that pesky happy credit card hand-over emoji....

    Thanks
    Arc

Is there a easier to medium trail in southern or central Vermont that anyone can recommend to get my feet wet so to say?

Hey all - anybody know any decent tree dropping companies? I'm in north central Franklin county. Normally do all my own cutting for firewood when it's clear enough to drop, or just let nature bring them down for me. I had one small time guy I ran across a decade back I used once, but can't find him now.

A few years ago, I ended up calling 3 different companies to get a small bunch (>1) done. One never even returned message. Second came out, gave quote and 3-4 weeks out. After two months I call back and they said sorry, but we're busy. Well you could have called me... Third then did similar quote and weeks out, but also never showed up or called. I didn't even call to bitch. Got tired of it all that year. And all three of these are "bigger" local probably well known companies I will never deal with again.

I'm back in the mode that I'd like to get some stuff done again. Anywhere from 2 to 10 trees depending on final quote amounts, so decent enough money. Some / most can be a picker truck, but could be hilly trouble getting up near half of the 10 if they want to do all. Otherwise would need climbers. Any recommendations? I have one new one to try calling but looking for others I probably don't know about.

    Thanks for thoughts

Did you try Barrett's Tree Service? They are very good and my former neighbor. The brothers recently sold it, but still work for the company.

Thanks, that's why I ninitially called them back then. But unfortunately in my second paragraph they came in as Co. #2. Woman on the phone basically stated they were too busy to get to us "small timers" any time in the foreseeable future. So much for a quote and scheduled work, let alone not calling me back. Not a fan. I figured they'd come up though haha

Don't have any companies to try, but are you on Front Porch Forum? You might get some more local suggestions there.

No, not on FPF or any other media except TW here. Probably sounds sad to some people lol. Just not my thing, this is about as much social media presence as I prefer. And I primarily look around on here to learn for the truck's sake, but usually have very little technically to contribute that hasn't already been covered. Mostly just minor sh@t posting in the funny meme or Florida threads to keep sane with humor.

Who did I done see this morning?
Firstly, I was up going over "the hill" on 105 north of Jay. First time on the new autotrans and bigger hill, and a good day for a drive.

So near the bottom on the Jay side, coming up back towards the hill on 105 was something with a really funky (good!) front end / bumper. I then tried to see if it was a Taco. I think? Then after it passed when I went to see the back end in my mirror I was frozen on the 200 stickers completely covering the tailgate. Didn't even get to notice if it was a VT plate lol, but think it was. For some reason I also think "pumpkin" comes into play?

Anybody on here, or know this one?

    OK guys please help!
Had to go to Lebanon NH so stopped at WRJ toyota. 3 sports MGM there. So talked to my salesman, they took $900 off truck msrp 42,606 to 41,606. I get $500 military rebate so truck is $41,106.
The kicker is my truck so offered sight unseen 15,000. It's a 2013 TRD OR DC 4WD with 121k. Original owner leer 180 shells with thule racks loaded. Frame is good warranted until 1/10/25. I treated from day 1 plus wet okole seat covers day 1. Nothing mechanic wrong with it. It needs tires. I had bought tires for it just not mounted yet.
My question is what do you think I could get for my truck on the open market? Am I crazy to let it go? What is fair trade in? Ty. Other trucks are coming in here so no rush just need some suggestions please. Don't want to act in a rush. Thanks. Pic of truck today

Edit: WTH? Sorry, don't know how my stuff got dropped into your quote lol ----

First off, you should know that your wallet is in danger whenever "just stopping in" at any kind of fun store!

Aug 3 I traded mine, it was also 2013 but TRD OR AC, slightly less miles than yours. I also got what $$ they are offering for yours, thought it was fair enough to not have to deal with private yahoos sales / time. My frame was decent, but suspension was crusty and would also need tires soon, but otherwise also mechanically ok. I went for it. Sounds like you would be equivalent on trade value, so you are in the ball park with current dealer activities. Plus you'd get some decent amount of mark downs "in this day", probably won't get much better up here in VT. Don't have a clue what actual sale value on the market would be for yours.

Can your current make it another 5-8 years? If you don't "rush" into this one this year, you should probably wait a few. The next gen is starting to make its way out of hiding soon. First year / turbo / hybrid-option gremlins may want to be avoided. You truck looks fantastic in the photo. If there's not a lot of major rust on the big stuff, little stuff should be nothing if it even comes around.

The only thing left to say is if you were like me, I got into new for the last year of the gen3. I'm not too thrilled with what I see on the next one coming out, and decided to get something new set up for another 10-15 years, where I don't think my last one would have made it that far without major crusting. Plus I just had to much "itch" and decided to treat myself since I don't get out much any more. Dig into the Gen4 threads and see if that enters your mindset to help you lean one way or the other.

Disclaimer: I hate changing vehicles as I keep for at least 10 years each, I'd probably keep yours; I had my reasons for updating. Let us know what you do. Also my new is MGM too !

Yeah I know the stopping in is very dangerous. I usually keep my trucks long like you 10 years+. I drove a 1995 Truck pre Tacoma almost 350k. A 3.0L to boot with no head gasket failure. Clutch was good to almost 250k. I wore the ignition out. I sold it mainly because rust on undersides as you said. Fuel filter and lines disintegration, rusty body. Frame was amazing considering Vermont. Truck was made in Japan back then.
Part of me wants to keep it. My local mechanic thinks I'm crazy. I worry too much about its long-term with components. I'm up in NEK Island Pond. I like to go into the woods with it. I guess I'm talking myself out of it again. I like no payments.

Thank you I feel I'm giving it away and hate doing that. I also hate the new way of buying trucks. I understand they need to keep lights on and pay staff. I always have. But it seems it's flipped all to them. Been buying Toyota trucks since 1987. So much easier in the past.

I agree in this direction. If you decide to get new sell it yourself if you have the people skills and $$ logistics to work it (me no people very well -derp-). I'd also ask 25K lol. Let them low ball you, then tell them to go to the dealer lots to see the current crop of used and what they are asking. Then let them come crawling back to you and offer 24k for it.

In true "I can't make up my mind fashion",
I sent an email to my sales representative in WRJ and said I'm not buying today. LOL. Yesterday after reading everyone's encouragement, I took my truck down to my local shop (great people). This is in little ol Island Pond and we have 3 great local shops that I've built customer relationships with. The last time I had this urge to buy, I went out and purchased new wheels and tires. So they are mounting those up and going through the truck for me. When I get it back, I'll detail it and decide what my next course of action is. The shop had previously been a car dealership and has been in business since 1960. They sell cars and trucks too. Craig told me he would get any truck I wanted. Lol. He hates the way the businesses is going and really helps people here. A 3 generation car shop. So will post a picture and info when they assess my truck.

So my new 3GEN OR wheels and tires are on. I bought them in Maine via CL as new, never used takeoffs. Craig, Justin and Ernie checked my truck out and said keep it. I had them do an oil change, State Inspection, put tires on etc. Craig offered to buy the truck, but showed me its worth via Carfax as a one owner truck. Such Honest People. So I'm keeping it at least till my frame warranty runs out 1/10/25. Thank you everyone!!

Nice, I think you'll be happy keeping this one a while longer. New shoes are always nice. Plus if you got something new, wouldn't you have to chuck more at it right away to get it close to the current ride? Looks like you got some amount of stuff on - cap, rack, window guards, etc.... and a cooler looking grill:spending:
