Yes, but it seems like you are the one most responsible for making sure it's viable. Must pass emissions / safety inspection of where you live to register for the road, file certain forms, pay possible (likely?) duty fee, even possible provicial fee up there, etc. "Cost prohibitive" would be up to you...

Search "import Canadian auto to US" should give enough hits to give you a feel for what's invovled.

The whole forum is on constant repeat, how many times are people going to ask if they can stick 35s on a stock 3rd gen, or complain about the transmission, or minivan motor, or seats are uncomfortable, etc….etc…

Blame Toyota for not giving any updates, while Ford has their shit together. You should send them a sternly written letter on why in the hell there haven’t been any updates and no online configurator yet.

So we get bored waiting and bullshit in the mean time. You could scroll or hit the ignore button. Off topic is what keeps this forum alive, there are more subjects on here not about Toyota Tacoma’s than there are. You could hang out on the …it is fairly dry and boring though.

4G is plenty capable for midsize truck, it is just butt ugly. And needs a diesel for efficiency and could be more utilitarian is why the HiLux comparison. The hybrid doesn’t make much sense putting out that much power while reducing towing capacity, has more torque than a gasser Super Duty, but tows less than half. Seems pointless to have all that power yet can only tow 6000 lbs.

The power might make sense if they did the suspension better for a play truck, but they dropped the ball on that too, so much they built gimmicky suspension seats to make up for the lack of it. All that power means nothing if you can’t get it to the ground. That extra inch and a half or so of travel in the seats could have been built into the truck’s suspension. Instead they wasted R&D on seats and widen the track with wheel offset. Where GM did longer control arms, so the suspension will have roughly 2” more than the Tacoma.

If I were buying a F250 I would get the 7.3 gas motor or their 6.8 gas. Although the jury is still out on the transmission that they pair up with the 6.8 and its only offered with the XL (Base truck).

It's just constant. And they want a mid sized with an 8 foot bed, manual trans, triple locked, am/fm cassette radio. crank windows...lol. They could move to Australia and buy a HiLux.

    This truck needs a diesel… :p

Ya know the new Land Cruiser is getting a diesel hybrid, covers a lot of bases of trying to appease them all.

Says the guy still driving a clapped out 80. :p

Have considered of moving to New Zealand, have buddy that has been living there for the last 10+ years. We even considered getting into importing Land Cruisers and HiLuxes to the US. Too much of a headache.

Yeh expensive to get one here. I don't have a need for a diesel anything and Toyota doesn't have a large enough market in the US for diesel. Toyota diesels are made for a purpose not for speed or coal rolling like they want here in the USA. Toyota diesels are slower than a 1988 22RE

Why we need to get over it:

Numbers are from 2021, the last year you could get a new Diesel F150.

Comparing the $2,600 3.5 Ecoboost option vs $5,000 Turbo Diesel option you would save about $2 a tank. Save that money for DEF. You also tow 1,900lb less and miss out on 150hp and 60lb-ft. Plus you paid an extra $2,400 to drive it off the lot. I know, "diesel's last longer" but most people trade before their engine needs a rebuild. Put that $2,400 savings into an index fund for ten years and you'll have $5K towards your replacement truck.

I seriously considered it, buds wife has family in Australia that owns a massive cattle ranch, they had all the connections. It wasn’t too terribly expensive, but didn’t want the headache of a 25 year old vehicle and chasing parts.

Not into rolling coal or speed, was mainly doing it for mpgs and was going make my own bio-diesel, but big business got a hold of WVO which made it darn near impossible for a dirt bag like me to go around to restaurants asking to take their WVO off their hands for nothing. We did a couple small batches at my friends house, it is a nasty job. One day came to the realization, me trying to be green is an utter waste of my time and energy, the little I do doesn’t really matter when the neighbor is pumping out kids like a puppy factory. Kinda did a 180 and think any efforts to save the environment is a fool’s errand. Humans mostly suck anyways…

I think it would be very cool for a diesel variant of a midsized truck to come out but it’s just not a viable market here in the states, and they wouldn’t sell many of them. Most people that get diesels are using them for towing purposes and would rather have a 3/4-ton truck or even a 1-ton for more capacity and stability. The last mini-diesel I recall was the Chevy Colorado Duramax from 2022 and I don’t think very many were sold at all. It just fills a void that isn’t there. I also think that people like the idea of simplicity in their vehicles, with the hand-crank windows and stick shifts, but wouldn’t actually purchase that kind of vehicle if they were being mass produced.

They are just desperatly searching for a reason to hate on the newest Tacoma, and probably would complain about the Hilux too. The 4th gen Tacoma with a manual even makes more torque than the 2.8L diesel Hilux with a manual lol. Sure, I'd love a V8 diesel Land Cruiser 70 series with a tray on the back, but it would also be crazy expensive.

We are getting the most trim levels, the most power, the best fuel economy, the smoothest ride, etc. ever offered on a Tacoma with this 4th gen. They won't be able to build these quick enough

Meh not really, think the new chassis and turbo gasser is going to be a vast improvement over the 3G. The styling both exterior and interior are gawd awful, and doing away with the access cab are my biggest gripes. DCSBs are idiotic, can’t stand the body configuration. So that leaves the DCLB, might as well get a full-size at that point.

Sure they are going to have a manual, but in what trims??? seriously doubt it is going to be available in the SR. I am a cheap SOB, wanted a manual in my 3G, but didn’t want to pay an extra $3-4K to get it. In the AC, a manual is only available in the Sport trim, would of cost me more than $3-4K, because there is a bunch of stuff on the Sport I don’t like and would have to change. So I bought an auto SR, it is ok, but isn’t a manual. Kinda soul destroying.

As for the diesel talk, dunno just kinda start talking about the oil burners as a “what if” and go down the rabbit hole. Nothing really against the 4G, though some guys take it that way.

Indeed, they are. Although, mine no longer gets anything close to the fuel efficiency it had when I first bought it. I've dropped from an average of 23mpg to 19.5mpg per tank, which makes some of my original logic for the purchase questionable. In fact, that's one of the reasons I'm looking at going back to a midsize Trailhunter - which will have power numbers very similar to my AT4, but with much better fuel economy and regular gas. The only thing I'd be giving up is the size of the cabin.

As for the cabin size, I just wish the Tundra wasn't so damn inefficient and ugly... and whatever happened to the Tundra Trailhunter trim, damnit? uhg.

Tow rating down with the I force max? I read it was down to 6k for the max and 6400 for non max....any validity to this?
