Need replacement battery, making me so frustrated..

If you have the tow package the truck came from the factory with a 27f. You need a larger battery for towing because of the extra draw demand from towing a trailer. Extra lights, brake controller, and other demands associated with towing/trailering etc. etc. Also with the tow package comes a larger output alternator.

 

I see you're not OP but thought I would chime in. I see you're from cold Canadian Prairies and Legion member. Me too. My opinion just go to Costco and get a 24F or 27F. Doesn't really matter. If you've had 24F with success why not stay with that. As you said it will probably last 5 years, inexpensive and a warranty. Have those in my Taco and Vette. Simple.

 

I just modified the original mount. Used some generic battery J hooks and in went the 34R.
Had a friend who stored their car over winter and gave them my 2 amp maintainer.
Now have a inner fender mounted 5 amp that I use to keep the odyssey extreme fully charged.

Never boring here.

 

I went with 27F and bought the 2nd gen tray to fit it properly. Can use stock tray in meantime and 27F will fit without modification. Would not go with AGM unless you have a lot of accessories as adding weight to that area of the truck can cause cracks to sheet metal supports in that area if you drive rough terrain often. 27F is usually lighter and higher capacity, with sometimes a slight compromise on CCA, and is easier to find and was the same price in my area. I went with a standard flooded Interstate battery from a helpful battery store, not a department store that sells milk, eggs, and bedding a few aisles over. Was well under 200 bucks even in Canada where our dollar is almost useless lol.

Edit to say that 3rd gens never came with 27F battery. That stopped with 2nd gens w/ tow pack.

 

They have it changed for 3rd gen. Probably saved a couple dollars. In any event if you have the tow package and/or if you tow you are better off with the 27f. I know all 2nd gen with tow package came with 27f. It was listed as an integral part of the tow package . The 27f has a higher reserve capacity and longer life and they recharge faster. The 27f is a better choice if you tow, if you don’t tow then go with a 24f or what ever. But who the hell cares, just get Costco or Walmart battery 24f, 27f, or any series you want and be done with it. A simple question made into such a complex convoluted bunch of shit. But I think that’s the way battery, oil, and tire treads go.

 

One of the reasons a top of the line battery from walmart is a solid choice is walmart sells a lot of batteries, so the odds of getting a bad one is slim. Other thing is you don't want any battery thats been sitting on a shelf for months and months before you buy it.

I usually hit walmart or the local menards for batteries and have no problem finding one dated for the same month I'm buying it.

Here is the deal there are maybe 4 battery manufactures that sell flooded cell batteries in the US. Buy the one that is most convenient no matter what the name. The group 27 is a better choice more cranking amps.

While the banter is, as usual, very entertaining, I'm going to be the wet noodle and leave the party early. I went to Costco and bought a 27F wet cell because I needed a damn battery for my truck. The plastic tray fits in width but not in length so one side is a bit up and past the tray edge, and the positive cable just *barely* fits on the post, otherwise everything works fine. The factory j-hooks work fine so it is nice and snug.

27F was $109 and 24F was $119. I asked why the smaller one was more expensive and the guy said, without batting an eye, that the group 24 was more popular. LOL!!

To answer some of the other comments: yes, I go offroad a lot and bounce and hop plus I have a lot of mods running through my BlueSea fuse block that all have a tiny bit of current drain, so those were the reasons I wanted an AGM. Also, to one of the comments, in the 3rd gens that cannot do the fuse hack you can get a vforest ovtune that will adjust the output of your alternator to bump it up slightly for the AGM charging. I have a tune and the software so can make that adjustment myself when I finally (in another five dang years) get an AGM battery.

 

Congrats, I guess, but ya coulda done that without all the drama. Get past the AGM thing but thanks for starting another hilarious battery thread.
